    Local Kiwanians Plan
To Attend Convention
Mr. and Mri. E. Ronald Rice,
Mr. and Mrs. Irving Mirick and
Dr. and Mrs. Abner Clark of
Medford will attend the 41st an
nual convention of Kiwanis In
ternational at San Francisco,
June 17-21.
They will join more than 14,
000 other Kiwanians and their
wives at what may be the largest
convention in the organization's
history. Convention sessions will
be in the civic auditorium.
Rice is a division lieutenant
governor of the Pacific North
west district. Mirick is president
of the Medford club and Clark
is a director.
Among the speakers at the
five-day meeting, in addition to
Kiwanis International President
J. A. Raney, will -be John Foster
Dulles, secretary of state,
George N. Craig, governor of
Indiana, and Mrs. Spencer
Tracy, wife of the motion pic
ture star. Raney will deliver the
convention key-note address.

Polio Cases Said
Behind Last Year
Washington (U.R! The Pub
lic Health Service reported to
day that polio cases so far this
year are running considerably
behind 1955.
Although it is too early to
make any soiid predictions, au
thorities admit they are now
hopeful that this will be a rela
tively light polio year.
The service said 120 cases
were reported in the nation last
week, less than half the number
reported In the same week last
year.
So far this year, there have
been 1864 polio cases compared
to 2534 during the same period
of 1955. There also have been
49 fewer paralytic cases than
last year.

will deliver the principal ad
dress at the convention prelude
Sunday evening.
Dulles will speak Thursday
morning, June 21. Governor
Craig will deliver his address
Wednesday, and Mrs. Tracy will
speak to the ladies Wednesday
afternoon.
Convention sessions will begin
Monday, June 18, with a western-style
greeting from motion
picture star Leo Carrillo.
Tuesday morning will be de
voted to convention work. Tues
day evening will be reserved for
"district dinners." There are 30
Kiwanis districts.
Wednesday evening will see
the president's reception and
ball, with entertainment and
dancing. The convention will
conclude on Thursday, June 21.
Former Romanian
King Would Return
New York (U.R) Former
King Michael of Romania said
yesterday that he would like to
return to his country if and
when it becomes free. He said
he believes the people would
want him back as king.
"Of course, the people must
have their say in this matter,"
he said.
He arrived at LaGuardia Air
port, on an American Airlines
plane from Washington after
meetings with Vice President
Richard M. Nixon and attending
a lunch in his honor by Deputy
Undersecretary of State Robert
Murphy.
Michael is here for three
months of training in the 'opera
tion and mechanics of aircraft in
struments manufactured by Lear
International, for whom he
works In Geneva, Switzerland.
