Most certainly; No. Month aft
er month in this column I keep
saying as strongly as I know how
that hundreds of thousands who
have a bad nervous heredity fail
to inherit the tendency to ner
vous illness, while other hun
dreds of thousands fight the
tendency all their days and win
out.
As I write this,1 a woman is
leaving my office. She, with a
poor nervous heredity, for 50
years has clung ot her sanity.
She has suffered terribly, but
she has come out of the refining
fire pure gold a wonderful
woman who is doing a fine piece
of work in this world. She is a
good and useful citizen. Now, to
my great joy, I am able, with
one of the new drugs, to make
her life much more comfortable
than it ever was. She no longer
has to fight so hard to hang onto
her nerves and her temper.
A man whose family is full of
criminals doesn't have to be a
criminal. Often, he isn't a crim
inal. It may just be easier for
him to be a criminal than it
would be for someone else.

connection with the meeting will

room. A cocktail and social

conducted at the Syncc Halaas
combo from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
No speakers are scheduled
and business will concern dis
cussion brought up by those who
attend. The meeting is planned
to better acquaint well drillers
from various parts of the area.

to these young mothers as a
baby-sitter, and, as a result, her

ing happiness to young people.
She now has the joy of being
useful, of being wanted, and of
being appreciated. She is no
longer sitting alone in her apart
ment. What a wise woman!

Western Union
Talks Renewed
Washington (U.R) Wage con
tract negotiations involving 34,
000 employees of Western Union
Telegraph Co. resumed yester
day. Company officials met sepa
rately with negotiators for the
AFL-CIO Commercial Telegraph
ers Union, representing 30,000
employees in all areas except
New York City, and with nego
tiators for the Independent
American Communications Asso
ciation, representing 4000 work
ers in New York City.
The CTU wage contract ex
pired last week. Temporary
walkouts were reported Friday
at Cleveland, Philadelphia and
Los Angeles. The union has not
announced any strike call. Com
pany officials said there are no
current work stoppages.
The ACA has temporarily ex
tended its wage contract, sub
ject to cancellation at 24 hours'
notice. ACA workers in New
York walked off their jobs to
attend a mass meeting Friday
but returned to work Sunday.
The company has offered a
10 cents an hour wage increase
under a two-year contract, with
an additional seven cents an
hour for certain jobs to take
effect next March and about
a penny an hour in fringe bene
fits. The CTU is demanding a 15
per cent hourly increase for a
two-year contract plus five cents
in fringe benefits and seven
cents an hour for certain jobs
to take effect this August.
The Western Union employees
average $1.88 an hour now.
