Portland Rose Festival Will Top List of Events Throughout State During June

The internationally famous
Rose Festival begins with the
night show and coronation of the
queen at Multnomah Stadium.
Wednesday. June 6. The festival
extends through Sunday with
marine events at Powers Park
and the Golden Rose ski tourna
ment at Mt. Hood, both begin
ning at 1 p.m. The Grand Floral
Parade is to be held on Saturday,
June 9. beginning at 9 a.m., mov
ing into Multnomah Stadium and
moving from the stadium at 10
a.m. Theme of the parade is Du
neyland in Flowers this year.

Buckaroo at Philomath
Philomath will hold its Third
Annual Buckaroo and Loggers
Frolic on June 9 and 10. The pa
rade will be held June 9 and the
Buckaroo on June 10.
The Azalea festival, Brook
ings, June 9-10, begins with a
pet parade on Saturday morning
and coronation of the Queen at
11:30 with music and dancing
The flower show opens at 2 p.m.,
Saturday, along with Kid's
Kapers in Azalea Park. The fes
tival closes Sunday with church
services and barbecue in Azalea
Park.
The "World's largest straw
berry shortcake" at the Straw
berrv Festival, Lebanon, June
14-16, will be cut at 12 noon,
Friday, June 15, serving approxi
mately 12,000 peopled The cake
is 12 feet wide by 16 feet long
and stands 4Vi feet high with a
combined weight of 5,358
pounds.

The Annual Sistera rodeo will
begin with the queen's ball at
9:30 p.m., on June 22. On June
23 a children's bridle horse con
test and musical chairs contest
will be held at 9:45 a.m.; parade
at 11 a.m.; rodeo 1:30 p.m.; and
buckaroo dance 9:30 p.m. On
June 24 the annual buckeroo
breakfast willbe held from 6
to 10 a.m. with "All you can eat
for a dollar." The finals in the
rodeo will be at 1:30 p.m.
The first performance of the
Mirror Pond Water Pageant at
Bend will be held on the night
of June 30 this year. Repeat per
formances at 8 p.m., will be held
on the nights of July 4 and 7.
