Mothers Granted
Permission for
Sale of Daisies"
Mayor Earl Miller has granted
Medford Blue Star Mothers per
mission to .sell blue daisies on
'the streets. of the city May 18
and 19, it .was. announced today.
The daisies are made entirely
'by veterans confined in hospitals
and domiciliates of the United
States. Proceeds . of the daisy
sales, will be used for the rehab
ilitation of veterans in the Camp
White Domiciliary. - Medford
Blue Star Mothers have taken as
their special project entertain
ment - of the : wheelchair mem
bers. They also provide clothing
and other necessities for wheel
chair members who . have no
source of income.
- Mothers of Medford hope they
will have the support of the peo
ple on the streets, as they did last
year, when enough was con
tributed to carry the program
through -the entire year," the
chapter states.
Miss.Eskew Named
SOC Girl of Year

Southern Oregon college May 12,
Miss Beth Eskew, senior student
from Gold Hill, was named b$r
her classmates to the top honor
of "Girl of the Year:;'
In addition to honor roll stand
ing academically, she is a mem
ber of Delta Phi ' Alpha, music
honorary, Robes, women's all
school service honorary, and has
just completed her term as pres
ident, of the Associated. Women
Students.
She will teach in the schools
at Klamath Falls next year.

grees at an Academy of Friend
ship session held recently in Sea
side. They were Mrs. Clara Eld-
ridge,-. Mrs. R. L. Winn, Mrs.

were Mrs. James Robert, senior
regent; Mrs. Leo Webster, junior
regent and Mrs. John Summer-

ter night program for the last
meeting of the Medford chapter.

lections. During the evening a fare

had taken the friendship degrees
at the meeting in Seaside.
Club Plans Dance '
For Young People
: Rogue Valley Country club
has planned a dinner and dance
for the sons and daughters of
members and their guests. It will
be held Friday, May 18, in the
main dining room of the . club;
house beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Music for dancing will be pro
vided by Abby Green and Glen
Parker.

Recital Tonight
The second of a series of two
recitals by music pupils of St.
Mary's High school will be given
tonight in the school gymnasium
beginning at 8:15 p.m.
The Choralettes will open the
program, singing three numbers
to the accompaniment of Miss
Barbara Lickness. Randi Peter
son will play a piano number by
Longas and Miss Mary Kay Dug
an will play . "Barcarolle? '.by
Scharwenka.
Richard Cooper will sing num
bers by Youmans and Malotte,
accompanied by Miss Carol Rob
inson and Miss Carol Moldovan
will play Grieg's "March of the
Dwarfs."
The Boys' Glee club' will sing
three numbers, with Miss Robin
son as accompanist, with two pi
ano solos following. These will
be "Sonatina in C Major" by
Kabalevsky, with Miss Carol
Hussong at the piano, and Miss
Carol Robinson will play "Wed
ding Day ,at Troldhaugen" by
Grieg. ., .'
James Jones will present vo
cal, numbers, accompanied by
Miss Pauline Arnold and Miss
Sonja Peterson will play "Segui
dilla" by Albeniz. The Marian
choir will close the program
with a group of numbers. The
choir is directed . by Richard
Cooper and Miss Moldovan will
be accompanist.
Gardeners Plan ,
Flower Show-at
Shan Grange Hall
" Grants Pass "Green Thumb
Gardeners" have planned the
second annual competitive tlow
er show, "Rainbow of Iris," for
Sunday, May 20, at the Shan
Grange hall, seven miles out the
Riverbanks road from Apple
gate bridge. Anyone interested
in gardens is invited to enter the
show, senior or junior division,
the club announces, and no en
try fee will be charged.
. Entries are to be received Sat
urday, May 19, from 1 to 9 p.m.
The show will be open to the
public, on Sunday from 1 'to. 9
p.m. '. .

of .irisand other flowers and
flower arrangements will be dis

The June meeting has been set

order that the. meeting may be
held before the state convention,
set for June -10-12 in-Portlad.
It will be held at the home of

' Mrs: McGeary was honored at
a surprise shower. Decorations
were small pink roses combined
with white blossoms.

with Mrs. A. O. Floyd as instal
ling officer. '

dessert. Each member is to bring
her own service.

present a concert for a meeting
of Jefferson Parent-Teacher as
sociation to be held Friday, May
18, at 12:30 o'clock in the school
cafeteria. ...
Installation of officers will be
held, with Mrs. Fred Under
wood, a nast president of Wash
ington Parent-Teacher associa
tion, as installing officer.
Child care will be provided at
a nominal cost in Room 26 by
sixth grade girls.
A teacher-conference period
will begin at 2 p.m. and parents
are urged by PTA officers to
make a final visit to the teachers
of the children. Teachers will be
in their rooms during this time.
Refreshments will be served
by .mothers of children in . the
first grade.

Veterans' Bridge club to top
north-south players. Killen Mil

scored 155 Vi points, winning
first place among east-west play
ers. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Boyd
took second, north-south, : with
167 points, and third went to
Mrs. George Dean and Mrs. B.

a family dinner Sunday which
observed Mothers day. Four gen
erations of Mrs. Nickles' family
were present.
