Sewing Lesson

Thursday, May 10, at the home
of Mrs. Vinson Vaughn at 10:30 j

The lesson, "Short Cuts in
Sewing" will be led by Mrs. E.
A. Malloroy and Mrs. Earle
lossy. All those attending are
asked to take a skirt zipper, one
half yard qf material and other
sewing equipment. Anyone hav
ing a portable sewing machine is
also urged to take the machine.
A potluck .luncheon will be
served at noon, and table serv
ice is required as well as contri
butions lor the luncheon menu.
Installation of officers will be
held. They are Mrs. Don Ash
pole, president; Mrs. Glenn Cly
mer, secretary and Mrs. Victor
Gardiner, treasurer.
Mrs. Ben Gardiner, Reese

mony. Child care will be pro

Stamp Collectors
To Attend Session
Of Federated Clubs
Southern Oregon Stamp club
held the last meeting at the home
of Dr. Norman. Capsey with his
mother, Mrs. Lillian Capsey, as
hostess.
Kenneth Lewis of Ashland tld
of some of his experiences col
lecting stamps around the world,
while in the Navy. Mr Lewis
spent over 35 years in the Navy,
and has been a stamp collector
during all that time. Once he
even traded an American patri
otic song book for stamps.
Several members announced
they would attend the Northwest
Federation of Stamp Clubs ex
hibition and convention to be
held in Yakima, Wash., June
1-3. Some of the members, in
cluding Clyde Smith, club pres
ident, also plan to exhibit. It
was announced that Mrs. Roy
Carley had won an award for
her . collection "Religion On
Stamps" at an exhibition in the
east. She also had , a collection
entered in the Fipex show in
New York.
The club will hold the June
meeting at the home of Mr. .and
Mrs. Roland Beach. For this ses
sion the club will meet on the
second Thursday instead of the
first as usual, as Mr. Smith will
be gone the first week of .June.

Hours will be from 1 to 9 p.m .
A coffee will- be held from 8
a.m. to 11 a.m. and a tea from 1
to 9 p.m. A large plant sale is
also planned.
All gardeners are invited to
exhibit in the show. Entries will
be received Friday, May 11, from
4 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 7
a.m. to 10 a.m.

a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. at
IOOF hall, with a meeting to
follow at 8 p.m.

To Meet Tonight
Xi Mu, exemplar chapter of
Beta Sigma Phi, will meet to
night at 8 o'clock at the home of
Miss Anna L. May, 1810 Orchard
Home court. Officers for the

Plans will be completed for

Plan Initiation
Women of the Moose will
initiate candidates at a meeting
set for tonight at Moose hall, 11
Newtown street, at 8 a.m. Of
ficers for the coming year will
also be nominated, and Horizon
certificates will be presented to
those earning this award.
Initiation was also held April
29, with Mrs. Harry Long in
charge. Mrs. Reuben Strong and
Mrs. Ronald Adkins ; became
members of the lodge.
GIRL SCOUTS
The annual court of awards
and Brownie Fly-up of the Jack
son Girl Scout Neighborhood
will be held in the high school
gymnasium Friday, May 11,
from 7:30 until 9 p.m., accord
ing to Mrs. John Russell, neigh
borhood chairman. Mrs. Gerald
Gastineau, Rogue Valley Area
council troop organization
chairman, will be the speaker
for the evening.
Each of the eight troops in
the neighborhood will take part
in the program. Brownie troops
of the second grade will act as
ushers for the evening and the
third grade Brownies will pre
sent several songs.
The fifth grade troop will be
in charge of the Brownie Fly-up
and will receive the fourth grade
troops at that ceremony. The
sixth grade troop will present
the ceremony of the laws, which
will be followed by the presen
tation of second class badges to
fifth and sixth graders and also
the presentation , of proficiency
badges by the leaders of each
