To See Film Tuesday
"A Two-Year-Old Goes to the
Hospital," will be title of a film
to be shown at the District 4
meeting of Oregon State Nurses
association Tuesday, May 8 at
8 p.m., in the Doctor's lounge
at Sacred Heart hospital.
Plans will be made for a sum
mer picnic.

Many Attend
Presbyterian
Family Night
Over 300 persons attended a
Family night dinner Wednesday
evening at First Presbyterian
church, the largest number ever
to have attended such an event
at the church, officers said. Hope
and Candlelight circle members
had charge of the serving.
Table decorations were done
by Mrs. Alex McDonald, Mrs.
W. A. Wolf and Mrs. H. S. Mor
ris. They used flowers with
figurines of girls and boys and
miniature models of the church.
Dr. D. Kirkland West gave the
invocation and concluding
prayer. The program was
planned to present a picture of
Christian education being given
in the church and was conducted
by' the Christian education direc
tor, Lawrence Clark.
Theme for the evening was va-
cation church school which will
be held at the church June 18 to
June 29. Mrs. J. K. Hoey, general
superintendent of the church
school, spoke on the need for
bringing into the school this year
children not associated with oth
er churches.
Mrs. G. C. Corum spoke of the
activities planned for the kinder
garten department at the school.
Mrs. W. H. Jamison told of pri
mary department work, and Mrs.
R. E. Cordon talked regarding
the junior department. J. A. Ed-
son was speaker for the junior
high school section.
Mrs. George Flanagan gave
the details of a day at Lake o'
Woods where the high school stu
dents will spend a week be
ginning June 10 and the junior
high group will go beginning
June 17.
Miss Janet Jamison reported

day mornings, for children who
have attended Sunday school
during first service.
Mrs. Otis Swisher told about
the teacher training course
which she is conducting every
Sunday and about the new
church library. Mrs. Wayne
Jamison directed the juniors in
two numbers done with bells and
Mrs. D. F. Huson led group sing
ing. Miss Jamison directed the
smaller children in "song fun"
and James McDonald provided
moving pictures.
Disneyland Theme
For Canoe Fete
Eugene A Canoe Fete with
floats built around a "Disney
land" theme will be the main
feature of annual Junior Week
end at the University of Oregon
May 17, 18, and 19.
The fete was revived last
spring after a 14-year absence.
It will be held on the millrace
Friday night, or Saturday night
in case of rain. Student living
organizations will construct the
floats and special lighting effects
and orchestral accompaniment
are planned for the fete .
The first event of the week
end will be the Junior Prom
Thursday night. Jerry Field
ing's band will play for the
dance in McArthur court.
Saturday will bring the all
campus luncheon and the all
campus evening sing. The Ore-

Committee Makes
First Plans for
Y Smorgasbord
Plans for the second annual
YMCA Smorgasbord, to be held
in conjunction with the Y spring
auction on May 19, were dis
cussed at a meeting of the plan
ning committee Wednesday
morning, May 2, at the Y.
Solicitation will be handled
differently this year, it is an
nounced. Y members are being
contacted to make donations to
ward the cost of the food, all of
which will be prepared in the Y
kitchen under the supervision of
Mrs. Alex Tummers, member of
the planning committee..
Included on the menu will be
meat and fish dishes, vegetables
and salads, all from special
recipes of Mrs. Tummers.
Members on the planning com
mittee are Mrs. John Mansfield,
general chairman; Mrs. James
Moerder and Mrs. Tummers, co
chairmen in charge of arrange
ments; Mrs. I. M. Eitreim and
Mrs. Clifford Griffiths, co-chairmen
in charge of contacting
members; Mrs. James Winslow
and Mrs. Fred Baggenstos, co
chairmen in charge of tickets;
Mrs. Paul Harper and Mrs. H. P.

Serving hours will be from 5
to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19.
Tickets will be on sale at the Y
office. Large groups which re
serve space when tickets are
bought will be served together
in one of the smaller club rooms
adjacent to the Social hall.
Twenty-Nine Attend
Townsend Club Session
Twenty-nine members and two
visitors attended the last meeting
of Townsend Harmony Auxiliary
club last week. Mrs. Maud Ar
nold presided. Four club mem
bers with birthdays in May were
presented a decorated cake from
Mrs. A. W. Ellison. They were
Mrs. Ethel Hartley, U. S. Con
ner, William Comstock and Al
bert Kissinger.

Hospitals Plan Open House
To Observe National Week
The public will have the op
portunity again this year of vis
iting local hospitals in obser
vance of annual National Hos
pital week. Anyone interested
in calling the hospitals during
the open houses, scheduled on
different days at each hospital,
is invited.
The first open house will be
at Rogue Valley Memorial hos
pital on Wednesday, May 9 be
tween 2 and 4:30 p.m., sponsor
ed by the hospital auxiliary. Re
freshments will be served.
The next will be Thursday,
May 10 at Osteopathic hospital
when visitors will be conducted
through the hospital during the
afternoon hours and refresh
ments will be served.
' Sacred Heart hospital will
hold open house Saturday, May
12 from 2 to 4:30 p.m., with
Providence guild members in
charge.
Other activities at Sacred
Heart hospital will be a visit by
members of the Medford Sen
ior High school Future Nurses
club, with Mrs. Juanita Ander
son, adviser. The young women
will be shown about the insti
tution and served refreshments.
Each year members of the club
visit the hospital during the na
tional observance.
On Thursday, also at Sacred
Heart, Sen. Phillip Lowery, and
Robert Boyer and Robert Dun
can, candidates for state repre
sentative from this county, will
be guests for a tour of the in
stitution and they also will be
dinner guests of the hospital
staff.
