Couple to Wed
This Afternoon
In Church Rites
The wedding of Dorothy My
ers Peirce to Yngve S. Chris
tiansen of Oakland, Calif., is set
for today at one o'clock, at St.
Mark's Episcopal church. The
Rev. George R. V. Bolster will
read the single-ring ceremony. .
A reception will follow at the
bride's home, 37 Valley View
drive. About 35 family members
and close friends will attend.
The bride will wear a sheath
dress of Dior blue peau de soie
with bolero jacket and white
orchid corsage. She will attend
orchid corsage. She will be at
tended by her sister, Mrs. Har
lan P. Bosworth Jr., wearing a
pink embroidered suit and
white orchid corsage.
Benjamin J. Trowbridge will
be best man for Mr. Christianson,
and Max Peirce, the bride's son,
and David Bosworth will seat
the guests.
The newlyweds will fly to the
Hawaiian Islands for a wedding
trip and upon their return will
divide their time between the
bride's home here and Mr. Chris
tianson's home in Oakland,
where hj is in business.
The bride, a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. O. V. Myers, 20 Ash
land avenue, Medford, is the
widow of the late Max Peirce
of Medford: Mr. Christianson is
a son of Mr. and and Mrs. J.- A.
Christianson of Albany, Calif.

Couple Returns
From Vacation;
Son to Graduate
Mr. and Mrs. R.' W. Gray,
Cherry lane, returned home last
Sunday after a month's vacation.
The Grays first -went to Tucson,
Ariz., where they were joined by
Mrs. Gray's brotner and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin R.
Austey, Portland.
From Arizona the four trav
eled into Mexico, visiting Guay
mas, Mazatlan, Mexico City and
Guadalajara. Returning to the
United States, the Grays spent
some time with Mr. Gray's cous
in, Mrs. Winifred Wise, Sedona,
Ariz., in the Oak Creek canyon
country. . En route to Medford
they spent three days in the
Sacramento valley.
The Gray's ' son, Lt. Robert
Gray, will be. graduated from
the United States -Air Force
school ; at Laredo Air base in
Texas on May 10 and will re
ceive his Air Force wings. He
has been trained as a pilot of T33
jet planes, and recently has been
making cross-country flights. He
will arrive in Medford about
May 14 to spend a leave with
his parents.

game.

Medford City Schools Plan
Programs for Music Week
As has been the custom during
the last few years, Medford city
schools are devoting special at
tention to the observance of Na
tional Music week, May 6
through May 13. Each of the
eight jchuols will feature class
room and hall bulletin board
displays, based on this year's slo
gan "Music Keeps Your Life in
Tune."
Displays will include library
books about music, pictures of
composers, student art work,
and other appropriate materials
which suggest any musical ac
tivities. Among the special building
activities observing . National
Music week are a television pre
sentation by the McLoughlin
Junior High school band Wed
nesday at 2:30 p.m. and the
Washington school spring pro
gram on Friday evening by
fourth, fifth and sixth grade stu
dents. Jefferson school will hold a
student assembly, at which time
community singing and musical
contributions from each room
are to be featured. A Senior
High school string ensemble will
play for the Kiwanis meeting i
on Wednesday noon.
The high school boys' chorus
will present a short assembly for
intermediate grade students of
Lincoln school.
Friday afternoon, Mrs. Lor
raine Evensen, vocal music su
pervisor of city schools, will
present small groups of vocal
students from grade one through
grade twelve in a demonstra
t i o n, "Development of . the
Young Voice," for Roosevelt
Parent-Teacher associrtion. Fri
day evening Hedrick Junior
High school's spring band con
cert will be given.
This is the thirty-third national
observance of music week. Na
tional Music week is an attempt
to make every individual more
music conscious, to recognize
the value of music education,
and to increase interest in the
works of American composers.
It is with these purposes in mind
that the music teachers, and stu
dents of the Medford city
schools present their special mu
sic observances, Mrs. Evenson
states.
Annual Card Party
Important Event
One of the important social
events of this week is the an
nual spring card party of St.
Mark's Evening guild. It is set
for Wednesday, May 9, and
tables will be arranged in both
the Guild hall and the parish
hall.
Dessert will be served at 7
o'clock with bridge-, canasta and
other card games to follow.

committee states, and reserva

meet for a salad luncheon at
12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at
the home of Mrs. Wallace Brill;

Lady Golfers
Announce
Activity Night
. Plans for Women's Activity
night were made at the monthly
luncheon of Women's Golf as
sociation held at Rogue Valley
Country club Thursday. Mrs.
Ray Frisbie, president of the
Lady Golfers' association, con
ducted the meeting.
The -women's activity night is
set for May 10, and all social
and golfing members are in
vited to participate. Prizes will
include a set of golf clubs, a
golf bag and a pair of golf
shoes.

Tournament chairman, Mrs.
Loren Haughen, announced that
18-hole play is to begin May
10th. Many of the women will
be going to Ashland Tuesday,

ing in . the WVSO tournament,
to be held here May 17, sign up
in the ladies' locker rooms.

The first dinner was held
Wednesday night at the Med
ford hotel. Members from Cen
tral Point, - Phoenix, Talent,
Medford and Medford Crater
auxiliary, attended and about
60 were present. Thursday night
the dinner was held at the Eagle
Point Teenage clubhouse with
Butfe Falls, Prospect, Shady
Cove-Trail and Eagle Point clubs
participating. About 50 were
present.
This was Mrs. Rogers' official
visit to the area. At the two
dinners she spoke of the com
ing state convention, to be held
in Portland June 10-12, and re
ported on the auxiliaries', state
project, which is aid to the state
school for the blind at Salem,
for parents of visually handi
capped preschool children will
be held May 30 through June 3
and this year an educational
research consultant from one of
the national agencies working
for the blind will attend.
The trust fund which the state
auxiliary .maintains will pro
vide more than $3 for the sup
port of the state school this
year. Special gifts totaling more
than $1600 were added to the
fund by local clubs at a recent
spring board meeting.
Society to Give
Tea on Sunday
' Committee members for a
silver tea on Mother's day, May
13, to be sponsored by St. Ann's
Altar ' society were announced
last week. The tea and style show
will be held between 2 and 4
o'clock at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. John C. Boyle, Ross lane,
and if weather permits, the show
will be held on the terrace.
The public is invited to attend.

Mrs. Charles Ely, Mrs.' Louis
Rentz, Mrs. John Laden, Mrs.

Mrs. Roger Edward Bertrand
was honored at a tea and show

way. Mrs. E. R. Hood Jr., was
cohostesss with Mrs. Kirby.
Mrs. Bertrand is the former
Miss Judith Carole Gilbert, her
wedding to Mr. Bertrand having
been an event of March 16.
For the party yesterday re
freshments were served from a
table decorated in pink and
white with an arrangement of
white carnation and pink stock
and a pink nylon umbrella. Fa
vors were gold wedding rings
on white cushions with sprigs
of valley lilies.
About 25 guests attended.
The Bertrand-Gilbert wedding
took place in Reno, Nev., at
First Presbyterian church. The
bride, a daughter of Mrs. Robert
C. Browne, 2441 Capitol avenue,
and Clyde E. Gilbert, Reno,
wore a blue linen sheath dress
of embroidered linen with white
coat and accessories and a white
orchid.
Attending the couple were
Mr. and Mrs. James Humberd,
Grants Pass, sister and brother-in-law
of the bridegroom.
The bride is a student at Med
ford Senior High school. The
bridegroom, a son of Mr. and
Mrs. G. E. Bertrand, Grants
Pass, is stationed at San Diego,
Calif., : with the United States
Navy. Mrs. Bertrand will join
her husband in June.
