    Nurse is Speaker
For Baby Sitters
At Last Meeting
Mrs. Cleo Kent, a public
health nurse for Jackson county,
showed a film on baby sitting at
the last meeting of the Baby
Sitters' club of Medford. The
meeting was held at the home
of the coordinator, Mrs. Harold
Geigle, 1533 Springbrook road.
Mrs. Kent led discussion fol
lowing the film. All the sitters
agreed to take certain medical
tests to accompany their doctor's
certificates, and also to have
chest x-rays. Plans are also be
ing made for members of the
group to take a first aid course.
Mrs. Geigle states that mem
bers of the club are all mothers
themselves and that they are
being further trained in order
to make them more efficient and
dependable. All calls for sitters
are chanelled through the club.
Scoff ish Rite Women
Hold Recent Meeting
New officers of Scottish Rite
Women's club were the refresh
ment committee at a meeting of
the club April 23. Men of the
Scottish Rite joined the women
for refreshments at the close of
their meetings. About 15 wo
men attended. The session was
held in the club's rooms at the
Medford Masonic temple.
The next meeting will be May
14 and Mrs. Verna McCallister
will be general chairman.
Stamp'Club
Mrs. Lillian Capsey will enter
tain members of Southern Ore
gon Stamp club for a meeting at
the home of her son, Dr. Nor
man Capsey, 60 South Modoc
avenue, Thursday, May 3. The
meeting, set for 8 p.m., will be
followed by a discussion of
stamps arid trading.
GIRL SCOUTS

anied by Mrs. William Freder
ick, Mrs. Paul Garren and Mrs.
Willian Meyers, visited the Med
ford Fire department recently.
The girls were shown the of
fice, recreation and dormitory
facilities, the drying tower for
fire hoses and repair shop. The
fire trucks were shown to the
girls and it was explained to
them which trucks were sent
ou' according to the type of fire
reported. During the visit a fire
man slid down the pole used by
them in cases of emergencies.

club will meet Wednesday, May
2, at 8 p.m. at the Grange hall.

Luncheon Guests
Rogue River chapter, National
Secretaries association, Interna
tional, observed National Sec
retaries day at an annual "boss's
wife," luncheon April 25 at the
Medford hotel. Fourteen mem
bers and 20 guests met in the
Rogue room for the event.
Mrs. Ksy Thomas. Oregon di
vision president, and also chap
ter president spoke to the group.
Luncheon tables were decorat
ed with gold and crimson car
nations, using colors of the as
sociation. Entertainment included an in
strumental trio composed of
Miss Lona Felkner, pianist;
Richard Evans, baritone horn;
and Jack Hamilton, trombonist.
An accordion number was fur
nished by Miss Virginia Walters.
The musicians all are students
at Crater High school.
Bird Scrapbook
Shown for Group
Howard As a part of a pro
gram concerning birds presented
at last Tuesday's meeting of
Howard Garden club Mrs. How
ard Lind exhibited a scrapbook
concerning birds and their hab
its. She has worked on the pro
ject for the past year and .with
the scrapbook she displayed a
set of pictures which she has as
sembled and suitably framed.
Mrs. Jack Campbell was
hostess and Mrs. C. May and
Mrs. W. Smith were her co
hostesses. Entertainment includ
ed a plant exchange,
Next club meeting will be
May 22 at the home of Mrs. W.
J. McCulloch, route 2, box 379,
Merriman road.
Make sure quilts are clean
before storage. But unless they
contain wool, it is not necessary
to use a moth preventive. Fold
them carefully and place in a
dust-free box or chest.

Seventeen Join
New Organization
Seventeen attended the first
full membership meeting of the
Cow Belles, auxiliary to the
Jackson County Livestock asso
ciation Wednesday at the Jack
son hotel. All became members
of the new group at the lunch
eon session.
Mrs. Dora Krouse of the Ap
plegate was selected to attend a
state meeting of the organiza
tion to be heid jointly with the
state livestock association at
Bend May 7, 8 and 9.
Twenty new names were list
ed by the members and those
persons will be contacted to at
tend the next meeting of the
group and to join. The charter
is still open and will remain so
until the next meeting which is
planned as a tea to be held dur
ing the summer months.
Rogue-Elk Group
Has New Officers
Rogue-Elk New officers of
Rogue-Elk Home Extension unit
were announced last week. They
are Mrs. Mose Bush, chairman;
Mrs. Harold Corliss, vice-chairman;
Mrs. Oscar Hansen, secretary-treasurer,
and Mrs. George
Tockstein, corresponding secre
tary. Elections were held April 18
at the home of Mrs. Chester Wil
son, Mrs. Royal Greenman and
Mrs. Art Hume were cohostesses.
A luncheon was prepared from
recipes from Ceylon.
A report was given on a
"pennies for friendship" project.
The group will exhibit work
at the annual Homemakers fes
tival to be held Wednesday in
Central Point. A special meet
ing was held last week to com
plete work" on a skit to be presented.

Hosiest for Club
Mrs. Orpha Wendel, 411 Ar
cadia court, was hostess for
Felixianne club at her home
April 24.
A social afternoon was spent
and the hostess served refresh
ments. They will meet next May
15 at the home of Mrs. Frank
Daugherty on Kings Highway.
