Six Dutch
Largest One-Family
Wedding in Modern
History of Nation
Blenheim, Ont. (U.R) Six
Dutch immigrant couples were
married Saturday at Blenheim
in the biggest one-family wed
ding ceremony in modern Ca
nadian history.
The Roman Catholic nuptial
mass bf-gan at 10 a.m. when tall,
beaming Leo Dorssers led four
of his daughters up the aisle of
St. Mary' church.
Already waiting there were
two of his sons also being mar
ried to ftllow Dutch-Canadians.
The white-psinted church in
this quiet town was crammed to
the doors with hundreds of
guests of the seven families in
volved in the mass marriage.
There also were uninvited spec
tators and a swarm of newsmen
and photographers.
4 Daughters, 2 Sons
The big magnet was the Dors
sers family. The four daughters
and two sons of papa Dorssers
were married In one big cere
mony because he said, "it's
cheaper by the dozen, or so they
ay."
The marriage service, accom
panied by a full chorus, was the
longest in the records of the
church. There were six answers
to each question which the offi
ciating priest. Father Willibrord,
ordinarily gives only to the
bride and one bridegroom at a
time. Father Willibrord was as
sisted by two other priests.
At the last minute the fami
lies decided to make it a dou
ble ring ceremony.
The six brides were radiant
and smiling in identical long
white wedding dresses.
With the six couples were six
best men, four bridesmaids and
three flower girls, besides pret
ty seven-year-old Wilma Tim
mermans. Wilma had feared before the
wedding that she would forget
to get the right wedding rings to
the right couples at the right
time. She carried all 12 of them
on a silk cushion. But she man
aged fine.
Lft Two Years Ago
The Dorssers family came to
Canada from Helden, Holland
two years ago, leaving behind
three married daughters. Anoth
er daughter is married to John
Timmermans of Blenheim. Fol
lowing today's weddings there
Southwest Airways
Announces Changes
Southwest Airways company
has announced changes in sched
ules of two flights, effective here
today.
Flight 357 from Medford to
Los Angeles will leave Medford
at 5 p.m., rather than noon. On
this flight, stops will also be
made at Crescent City, Eureka
Arcata, Fort Bragg, San Fran
cisco, San Jose and Bakersfield.
The plane will now arrive from
Los Angeles and San Francisco
at 3:57 p.m.
Flight 23, from Medford to
San Francisco, which left Med
ford at 1:50 p.m., will now be
known as flight 27. It will leave
Medford at 3:30 p.m. Stops will
also be made at Yreka, Redding,
Red Bluff, Chico, Marysville,
Sacramento and Oakland.
West Coast Airlines
Takes Projet Options
West Coast Airlines an
nounced Saturday it will exer
cise its option to purchase at
least four of America's first
twin propjet transports, the
Fairchild F-27, and requested an
option on four more of the high
wing tricycle-gear "Friendships."
West Coast would become the
first of the nation's local serv
ice airlines to fly the 40-pas-senger
turboproo transport
which Fairchild will manufac
ture under license from Royal
Netherlands Aircraft factories,
Fokker, Amsterdam, company
officials explained.
