By Request
It is said when Gertrude Law
rence realized the end was near,
she requested the song titled
"Shall We Dance?" " -from the
musical show "The King and I,"
be played at her funeral service.
It wasn't played, the belief be
ing such a tune was not appro
priate for a funeral. I think it
should have been played. This
incident recalls that when May
Irwin was nearing the end she
asked, "Has the dressmaker fin
ished that red dress I ordered?"
The answer was in the affirma
tive. "Bury me in it," said May.
They did.
Eyes
Of course,' you know the col
or of your wife's eyes. But how
about your secretary? Or the
glamorous receptionist at your
office? Or your favorite wait
ress, manicurist or dental nurse?
You can't be certain as to the
color of a woman's eyes after a
first meeting. Her eye coloring
may bs changeable. She may
have chamelon eyes. The eye col
oring of Simone Silva, European
film actress, changes so fre
quently that she has four eye
colorings listed on her passport,
namely, gray, green, blue and
purple.
Wifeless Men
The statisticians say a wife
less man is 40 per cent more
likely to die before 60, nine
times more susceptible to men
tal disease and 95 per cent more
likely to meet with a fatal ac
cident than a married man. Ba
chelorettes should make a note
of these statistics so they can
mention them when making a
leap year proposal.

stargazers.

Singing Is Good
Therapy, Kralf Says
"A nation that forgets to sing
is doomed," Ted Kratt, dean of
the school of music, at the Uni
versity of Oregon told members
of the Medford Rotary club at
a luncheon meeting Tuesday.
Speaking at the Jackson hotel,
the educator and director of the
Eugene Gleemen said singing is
good therapy in this complex
age.
It is untrue that only a few
people have the ability to sing;
everyone can sing because music
is the universal language of the
soul, he said. Three essential
elements of music are melody,
harmony to enrich the melody,
and rhythm for character.
Today the rule of a few dec
ades ago has been reversed and
more. boys are studying music
than girls, he said.
Dean Kratt demonstrated
group singing techniques by
leading the Rotary club in pop
ular songs, and illustrated the
construction of simple but pleas
ing melodies. Leonard May
field, superintendent of Medford
schools and' Rotary program
chairman, introduced the speaker.
Burns From Rubbish Fire

"Temperamentally the long
limbed, pearl skinned, exquisite
ly bosomed English girl is as
languorous as she is odalesque,
as playful as a seal in a tub and,
for those who know her truly,
as sensual as an opium smoker's

Proposals
Between the ages of 19 and
25 the average woman gets at
least three proposals of mar
riage. Does this check with your
wife's experience? Who were
the other two fellows who pro
posed to her besides you? Do
you ever wonder if she wishes
she had accepted one of them?

Hollywood (U.R) The movie

The motion
picture, "Nni

Aline Mosby a documentary
account of the flying saucer his
tory from the time the first such
orjject was sighted in 1947 and
the nation went saucer-crazy.
Producers Clarence Greene
and Russell Rouse used eye wit
ness accounts of sightings and
the Air Force investigation of
same.
Three Key Men
The movie was made in coop
eration with three key men of
the Air Force saucer investiga
tion: Capt. Edward Ruppelt, for
mer director of the investigation,
called Project Bluebook; Albert
Chop, public relations chief for
the group; and Maj. Dewey Four
net, liaison officer between the
Pentagon and Project Bluebook.
Through various connections
Greene was able to obtain docu
ments on the saucer investiga
tion and two pieces of motion
picture film allegedly showing
saucers that -had been turned
over to the government.
One was taken in Great Falls,
Mont., by Nicholas Mariana, gen
eral manager of the Great Falls
baseball club. The other was
taken by a naval officer on va
cation, Delbert Newhouse, who
happened to have a camera with
him when he sighted some ob
jects near Tremonton, Utah.
I saw the motion picture. In
the Montana film, two white
saucer-like objects move in a
horizontal line across the sky.
In the Utah film, a formation of
saucers move in various direc
tions. They look like tennis balls
dancing in the sky.
Producer Greene has stacks of
documents from scientists and
Air Force investigators saying
the objects could not have been

In addition to Bartholomew,
other charter members include

Willam . Frohnmayer, secretary

The multiple listing service

The group anticipates that the

San Diego Shaken by

San Diego (U.R) An earth

Seismologist Fred Robinson

known aircraft or bal-
birds,
loons.
Not one actor was used in the
movie. Greene recruited news
paper men, police officers and
friends to portray the various
real -life characters connected
with ' the saucer investigation.
Some of the characters were por
trayed by the actual persons
including Mariana, Newhouse
and Capt. William Sperry, an
American Airlines pilot who re
ported a saucer in 1950.
The movie company shot for
18 months in Washington, D. C,
and other areas where saucers
were sighted. The film tells about
one incident when "saucers"
were reported over Washington
on radar. Then they were ex
plained as temperature inver
sion, but Greene claims he dug
up the true details.
Didn't Trust Him
"At first the Air Force people
didn't trust me because I was a
Hollywood producer," Greene
said. "I finally convinced them
my movie would be factual and
tell the truth.
"I notified the penta'gon what
I was doing. I also notified my
congressman, Joe Holt. I di
vorced myself from anybody
who might be a crackpot. We
stuck to the facts."
The picture will be premiered
in Los Angeles May 9. There will
be .no little men with pointed
heads present, the producer says.
