Spectators Watch
As Bear Cubs Killed
Portland (U.P.) Hundreds
of spectators watched helplessly
yesterday as two vouns cub
bears at the Portland zoo, out
in the sunlight for their first
look at the world, were killed
by the male bears.
The mother bear had broueht
her cubs out from their dirt den.
Immediately the male bears be
gan to attack the cubs as the
mother fought desperately to
ward off the blows.
Within an hour both'cubs had
been killed. Many stayed to wit
ness the tragic drama and many
others moved away before it end
ed. Zoo officials said bears were
dangerous at this time of year
and it wouldn't have been safe
to order anyone into the den.
Corporal Larry Parks to cut my
hair. He borrowed a pair of
clippers and sheared the hair
off the back and sides of my
head right down to the skin."
Hessie Braddock, Socialist
Member of Parliament for Liver
pool Exchange, said: "I will ask
the secretary of state if he is
aware that Private Smith, with
an excellent army record, had
been refused a final signature
on his demobilization papers un
til he had his hair cut."
