34th Anniversary
Rites at Nazarene
Set for Sunday
Members of First Church of
the Nazarene, Holly and First
sts., will commemorate the 34th
anniversary of the organization
of the local church Sunday,
April 22, in Sunday school and
morning worship services. The
first pastor of the church, the
Rev. C. M. King and Mrs. King
participate in the celebration and
give a impressions from the early
days of the church.
Charter members of the
church will be honored and it is
expected that others who attend'
ed during the first year will be
present.
The Gospel Hour quartets will
present a sacred concert begin
ning at 10:40 a.m., at the close of
Sunday school.
The church has supported its
own radio program for 12 years.
The Gospel hour has been heard
on KMED for many years at 9:
a.m., Sundays. The singers will
include the mixed quartet and a
male quartet heard regularly on
the weekly radio broadcast.
Also Sunday will be the final
day of the church year for the
Nazarenes in the Oregon-Pacific
district. All record books will
be closed after Sunday and an
annual meeting will be conduct
ed Wednesday, April 25, when
trustees and stewards, and other
officers, will be elected to serve
for the next yeear. The pastor,
the Rev. Raymond W. Hurn,
said today that, "The church is
finishing" one of the most cut
standing years in its history."
National CA Day
Observance Set
The young people of the Med
ford Assembly of God, 1108 West
Main st., known as the Christ's
ambassadors, will join with 86,
000 other Assemblies of God
youth of the United States in
observance of the 10th National
CA day, Sunday, April 22.
The Sunday service at 7:30
p.m. will feature members of
the local CA group, led by pres
ident Dolores Leslie. Emphasis
will be placed on position of
youth in the church and their
importance as future leaders.
The pastor, the Rev. Weldon
Colbough, will conclude the ser
vice on the topic "The Word is
Sharp".
Officers in addition to the
president are, Donald Strong,
vice-president; Margie Strader,
secretary, and Hazel Hanson,
treasurer. The Rev. and Mrs.
Colgaugh are advisers to the

At the service at 11 a.m. John
Bollinger, representing the Gid
eon's organization, will be the
opeaker at the church.
Further emphasis will be given
during the Sunday school period
on loyalty to Sunday school. The
theme for the day is "Steadfast
in Communion." Each depart
ment of the scholl will feature
this theme.
California Speaker
To Be Here Tuesday
Ralph Castle, Belvedere, Calif.,
will give a public lecture Tues
day, April 24, on the power of
God to heal, according to the
First Church of Christ, Scien
tist, Medford.
A member of The Christian
Science board of lectureship, Mr.
Castle will speak in the Senior
High school auditorium at 8
p.m., on the subject, "Christian
Science: The Law Governing
True Self-Expression." The pub
lic is invited without charge.
Spring Sing Contest
Scheduled at SOC
Ashland Southern Oregon
college's annual Spring Sing
will be held Saturday, April 21,
as a part of the high school visi
tation Senior Weekend activities.
Judy Hall, Jacksonville, and Art
Schmidt, Ashland, are co-chairmen
of the event.
The Spring Sing is a contest
for 'various organizations on
campus. Awards are presented
to winners in each of two classi
fications. They are conventional
all songs which, in content and
performance, are serious, classi
cal, sacred, or traditional; and
novelty all songs which, in
content and performance, are
comical, popular, modern, or
"barbershop."

'God Is Landlord7
Film on Sunday
"God Is My Landlord," a color
sound film, will be shown at the
Friends church Sunday at 7:30
p.m. The picture depicts ex
periments of Perry Hayden, the
"Quaker miller" of Tecumseh,
Mich., who planted a cubic
inch of wheat in 1940 that grew
in six years to cover 2,666 acres
of land.
His experience in tithing the
crop each year so interested the
late Henry Ford that he furnish
ed the land and the equipment
for harvesting the wheat, saying
"This will go around the world."
Both Henry Ford and Perry Hay
den are key figures in the film,
which was taken over a six-year
period. There will be no admis
sion charge and the public is
invited.
Worship services will be held
at 9:45 and 11 a.m., with mes
sages by pastor, Clayton Cris
man, and music by adult and
youth choirs. Sunday school will
be at 9:45 a.m., and at 11 a.m.,
for young people. The three
Christian Endeavor societies are
having attendance contests and
invite grade and high school bys
and girls to come at 6:30 p.m.
'Get Acquainted'
Meeting Planned

informally Sunday, April 22,
from 5 to 7 p.m., for a "get
acquainted" session with the
teachers, the children and each
other, at the church.
. This is the second in a series
to aid in a better undertanding
of the materials used in the
church school and how they can
be used effectively in the home.
The first meeting was for
Juniors, and, under direction of
Mrs. Merrill Harsh, was well at
tended. On April 29, members
of the Junior high and Senior
classes and their parents will be
welcomed, and on May 6, par
ents and children of the Pri
mary department will meet. Dr.

At First Baptist.
A "Youth Week End" direct

will be featured this week end
at the church. All of the activ
ity between Friday and Sunday,
except for the morning worship
service, will be planned and
presented by the young people.
On Sunday at 7:30 p.m., the
teen-age and college groups will
direct the service. Music will
be provided by the youth choir
under direction of Glen Lamb,
the brass quartet, the girl's trio,
and Miss Sonja Peterson who
recently won the Nancy Black
Wallace music scholarship, will
play the violin.
The message of the evening
will be given by the youth di

Rally for Saturday
A young people's rally is
planned at the local Pilgrim Ho
liness church, East Jackson and
Bessie sts; Saturday, April 21,
at 7:30 p.m. Representatives
from Roseburg, Grants Pass,
Central Point and Klamath Falls
will attend. The Rev. Clarence
Jackson, pastor from. -Klamath
Falls will be the chairman.
Speaker for the occasion is to
be Dr. Paul F. Elliot, promo
tional Secretary of youth and
Sunday school work. He is also
a member of- the general board
and executive council of the
denomination. Young people of
Medford are invited.

Hosts for Rally;
Speakers Listed
Medford has been chosen by
Southern Baptist of. the North
west as one of the 30 cities in
Oregon, Washington and west
ern Canada in which to con
duct one of a series of Victory
rallies which, together, consti
tute a campaign to bring the
impact of their national program
to as many individuals as pos
sible. Southern Baptists, who
now have 30,377 cooperating
churches and 8,474,741 members
throughout 40 states, have de
veloped a denominational pro
gram of Christian missions and
education that works through
its local churches to fill the needs
of the individual. These rallies
will explain the program to the
people who benefit from it.
Rally Tuesday
The Medford rally will be held
in the Temple Baptist church,
Tuesday April 24 at 7:30 p.m.
The speakers will be Robert N.
Dove, associate in the conven
tion's department of , religious
education, and James Forest,
pastor, First Baptist church,
Longview, Wash. Mr. Dove will
emphasize the work of the Train
ing union, and Mr, Frost will
follow with a stewardship ad
dress. The Rev. Floyd Yeats is
pastor of the host church.
This meeting will draw at
tendance from an area including
Tulelake, Klamath Falls, Grants
Pass, and Canyonville, and is
open to the public.
First Christians
Hold Observances
First Christian church is ob- j
serving Family month and the '
school of missions during April.
At 6:p.m., each Sunday a study
group has been conducted for
each age level. The study this
year is on the American Ind
ians. At 7 p.m. a program is held
for the entire group. Sunday
night a full length film "People
Without Fear" will be shown.
The evenings close with a social
hour and refreshments. All mem
bers and friends of the church
are invited.
