The Jackson County Grange
Council will meet Saturday,
April 14, at 8 p.m. in the Griffin
Creek Grange.
Phoenix Grange
The next meeting of Phoenix
Grange will be Tuesday, April
10.
A mystery program, arranged
by lecturer Dee Hendrickson,
will begin at 8 p.m. and will be
for Grangers only.
The business meeting will fol
low.
Eagle Point Grange
Eagle Point Grange hall was
filled to overflowing last Tues
day evening at thi election rally
held there. C. C. Hoover was
general chairman of the event,
Earl Jossy was parade chair
man, and James Dunlevy super
vised.
A wide variety of costumes
were displayed. Ostrich-plumed
hats vied with poke -bonnets
Tall silk hats and derbys were
everywhere. Antique jewelry,
huge "breast-pins" with hand
painted flowers, also gold nug
get watch chains were much in
evidence Striped overalls and
swallow-tail coats made the con
fusion complete, and delighted
the photographers.
The parade was led by a
group of Cub scouts, carrying
the American flag. An "old-time
band" played music for march
ing. Candidates and their sup
porters, carrying placards and
torches completed the proces
sion. Everyone entered into the
spirit of the occasion. The pro
gram was a "big success."
Eighteen candidates for office
and two for national convention
delegate were present.
Judge Rodney Keating won
the contest for best costume. He
was promptly awarded the
promised "100 votes" plus three
votes "bonus" to use in the
queen contest.
The two finalists for queen
were Mrs. Lottie Van Scoy and
"Susie Snow" (Bob Bitterling
in "Susies" clothes). Lottie re
ceived well over 900 votes, while
"Susie" got exactly 103. Lottie
was crowned queen and Shy
Morthland presented her a spray
of flowers.
Title-holder Rawles Moore and
contender O. H. Bengston put
on boxing gloves and got into
the ring to "slug it out" for title
of district judge, to the delight
of the !arge audience.
Candidates were escorted to
the rostrum by the following
"Eaglets": Mesdames C. C. Hoo
ver, Otis Hill, Kermit Carroll,
Earl Jossy and Bob Bitterling,
all members of Eagle Point
Grange.
Paul Olsen, legislative chair
man, was appointed official
timekeeper, with a timer set for
three minutes. Most of the
speakers "beat the bell." Many
expressed their approval of the
idea, and wished other Granges
would have a "candidate night,"
at their Grange.
After the rally, visitors not
remaining for Grange were in
vited to enjoy refreshments be
fore leaving. A great many did
so.
Grange opened late, but in
full form, with seating drill.
State officers and three Grange
Land," was presented in song,
and 'Easter Eggs were sung by
the first grade chorus; a rabbit
dance and egg dance were pre

A large number of parents were
on hand to view the perform
ance in which every child in the
first grade participated.

masters were presented to the
master's station. A number of
Granges were represented. The
hall was full, with about equal
number of visitors and local
members.
The charter was draped in lov
ing memory of Brother Bob
Fowler.
Due to the late hour, business
was cut to a minimum.
The Buford Clarks were add
ed to the serving committee to
assist the Moores and the Ham
mels. They served turkey sand
wiches. Ladies attending brought
and assortment of sandwiches
also, so there was a super-abundance,
even for the extra-large
attendance.
