Dinner to Precede
Monthly Meeting
Of Phoenix PTA
Phoenix A potluck dinner
will precede a meeting of Phoe
nix Parent-Teacher association
Thursday, April 5. The dinner
will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in
the grtde school cafeteria and
the business meeting will start
at 8 p.m. in the grade school
gymnasium. Those attending the
potluck dinner are to take serv
ice and a hot dish or salad.
Films will be shown in Mrs.
Stancliffe's room starting at 7
p.m. for the entertainment of
the children with an admission
of 10 cents. They will be repeat
ed during the evening.
Nursery care will be provided
in the library for the smaller
children under the supervision
cf Mrs. Floyd Jarman.
The begniner grade school
band under the direction of Har
ry Kannasto will present the
program.
The nominating committee
will report and officers for the
coming year elected.
Stamp Club
Southern Oregon Stamp club
will hold the April meeting at
the home of Mrs. Irene Cordier,
704 South Oakdale avenue, at 8
p.m. Thursday, April 5. The pro
gram will be presented by Ken
neth Lewis of Ashland.

Annual Meeting
Set Thursday
A large number of Jackson
county residents are expected to
attend the third annual meeting
of Southern Oregon Child Guid
ance Clinic association set for
Thursday, April 5. The meeting
will be held at Hedrick Junior
High school, with dinner to be
served at 7 p.m.
Those not planning to attend
the dinner but wishing to hear
the speaker are asked to arrive
about 7:45 p.m.
Speaker for the meeting will
be Dr. Henry C. Schumacher,
San Francisco, medical director
of the mental health service, re
gional office of the United States
Public Health service.
J. D. McAulay, Ashland, is re
tiring president of the group.
A committee from Medford
Extension unit will decorate the
tables under the chairmanship
of Mrs. Russell Fowler.
Two Return
Mrs. S. A. Nye and daughter,
Miss Ruth Nye, returned to their
home on Route 2 Monday after
spending the past several weeks
in California. The two traveled
by motor and plane and were in
San Francisco, Palo Alto and
Santa Barbara.

PTA Unit
Has Election
Eagle Point New officers
were elected at the last meeting
of Eagle Point Elementary Parent-Teacher
association. Mrs.
Dale Ackcrman, president, con
ducted the meeting in the high
school library. Elected to serve
for the new school year were
Mrs Stanley Smith, president;
Mrs. Elbert Heflet, vice-president;
Mrs. Helen Bekker, teach
er vice-president; Mrs. Victor
Hay, secretary; Mrs. Leroy Bed
ingfield, treasurer and Mrs. Dale
Ackerman, historian.
Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Bedingfield
and Mrs. Ackerman will be state
con' ention delegates.
Amendments to the by-laws,
as presented by a by-law com
mittee, Mrs. H. J. Adams, Mrs.
Elbert Hefley and Mrs. David
Harbison, were approved by the
association.
It was announced that two
unit members had taken office
in Jackson County Council of
P a r e n t-Teacher associations.
They are Mrs. Lester Bradshaw,
president, and Mrs. John Huff
man, secretary. The unit's publi
city scrapbook was also chosen
by the council as its representa
tive for display at the annual
state convention.
A short preview of the laughs
in store at the "Faculty Frolics"
to be held April 5 and 6 in the
high school gymnasium was pre
sented by a group of Can-Can
dancers.
A panel discussion of tuitions
and scholarships available to
encourage college attendance
was presented by Mrs. Elsie Tur
ner, tuition and scholarship
chairman, assisted by Clarence
Davies and Arthur Thompson,
chairman, led audience partici
pation. It was reported that 36 . pros
pective first graders had been
checked at the pre-school clinic
held by the Jackson County
Health department, with Dr. A.
Erin Merkel, in charge. He was
assisted by the PTA health
chairman, Mrs. Bedingfield.
Mrs. Nadine Shaffer's second
grade room won the room count.
Seventh grade parents served
refreshments.

the first such group to tour Latin

Frolics Planned
In Eagle Point
Eagle Point An unusual
event for Eagle Point will be
the "Faculty Frolics' to be given
Thursday and Friday, April 5
and 6, in the High School gym
nasium. Faculty members of both
the grade and high school are
taking part, and curtain time
both nights is 8 p.m.'
Funds raised will provide a
scholarship for an Eagle Point
student. '
. On the program will be a Can
Can dance with men performers,
"torch" singers, several skits in
cluding a "Frankie and Johnny"
number, a quartet and a band.
The public is invited to attend.
