Political Financing

dressed a luncheon meeting of
the Salem Kiwanis Club. i

political party as a substitute for
large private campaign contribu
tions. He said "an undemocratic ele
ment has been introduced when
one nominee can eclipse his
opponent not because of super
iority of ability or ot nis poii-:
cies, but merely through a pre-'
nonderance of coin of the

realm."
Rudy Brothers Circus
At Hedrick Gym Today
The Rudy Brothers circus,
which has been playing in Port
land the past week, will stage
, two performances at Hedrick
Junior High school gymnasium
at 4 and 8 p.m. today. The cir
cus is being sponsored here by
the Crater Lions club.
Club officials said the circus
includes several acts with baby
elephants, ponies, dogs, and
chimrjanzees.'
Proceeds from the circus will
be used by the club's welfare
fund. The show lasts about two
hours, club members said.
Air Force To Continue
Two Tillamook Courses
Washington (U.R) Sen.
Wayne Morse (D-Ore.) said today
that the Air Force has decided
to continue the two petroleum
courses at the Northwest Tech
nical Institute at Tillamook,
Ore.
Morse said the courses, for
Air Force personnel, were
scheduled to be terminated at
the end of the present fiscal
year but that the latest decision
of the Air Force assured that
Tillamook would retain the pri
vate school.
"These courses cover highly
important functions of storing
and maintaining jet fuels and
high octane gasoline and are of
prime importance to national de
fense," Morse said.

Board of Health Warns
Of Cesspool Workers
The state board of health has
warned home - owners against
hiring transient cesspool or sep
tic tank workers who are unable
to prove they are registered and
bonded to operate in Oregon.
Arthur Farrell, state plumb
ing inspector, said that laws en
acted by the 1955 legislature
require that anyone who hires
out to commercially pump or
install a cesspool, septic tank or
drain field must be registered
and must file a $1,000 surety
bond with the state board of!
health.
Registration and bonds are
good for one year only, ending
each June 30, Farrell said.
