Pipeline Company
Tells Finance Plans
Portland (U.R) Pacific
Northwest Pipeline Corp. has
announced here financing plans
for construction of a larger na
tural gas pipeline from the Co
lumbia river to the Canadian
border. Added cost over prev
ious plans would be $50,000,000.
C. R. Williams, president of
the firm, said Pacific Northwest
also plans to acquire 25 per cent
of the common stock of West
coast Transmission company,
which will bring gas to the Unit
ed States border from the Peace
River area of British Columbia.
Pacific Northwest will sell se
securities worth $35,000,000 in
first mortgage bonds and $10,
000,000 of 5.6 per cent interim
notes by placement with institu
tional investors. Bank loans will
cover the balance.
Pen and Ink Ballot
Decides Bond Issue
Fieldon, 111. (U.R) Nearly
100 per cent of the voters turned
out to' decide a $10,000 water
and fire protection bond issue,
but the election was decided by
a single ballot drawn up with
pen and ink.
All but four of the registered
voters cast ballots, and the bond
issue was defeated 77 to 76.
The supply of. ballots, was ex
hausted' when the last voter 'ap
peared, and the village clerk,
Adolph Schultz, made up the
extra ballot with pen and ink.

Tuesday by consuming 50 eggs

Flier Plans Record
Plane Climb, Jump
Washington (U.R) A dar
ing Air Force officer plans to fly
higher than, man has ever been,
close to 100,000 feet, and para
chute back to earth in experi
ments next fall.
He is Lt. Henry Nielson, 31,
of the Air Research and Devel
opment command with head
quarters in Baltimore.
Nielson will make his historic
flight to an altiude of 17 to 19
miles in a pressurized, sphere
shaped gondola attached to a gi
ant plastic balloon over the New
Mexico desert.
The balloon ascent will be no
stunt or record seeking exercise.
It is part of the Air Force re
search to insure that airmen will
be able to survive high altitude
bailouts from supersonic combat
planes of tomorrow.
