were being' asked to tack a one
cent per quart price hike to the
retail price of milk in the city.
Th request is being made by a
group of : Portland area dairy
men who said the price rise
was necessary to offset -oosts re
sulting from the long winter.
The dairymen Saturday
agreed that a price of $6 a hun
dredweight for 8.8 per cent
grade A milk is imperative, "if
many dairy farmers are to av
oid liquidation."
several of the Portland milk
distributing firms indicated that
they will oppose .the suggested
price increase. They pointed to
lower prices in California and
Seattle, saying that a price jump
at this time wouki . be out of
line.
