No Cure for Scattered Cancer

in their desperation, are willing

they know is

will give him
several hun
dred dollars in
advance for a
so-called guar-
naiier Alvarez anieea Cure,
They will give him their sav
ings, even when they have been
told that the man has been pros
ecuted and exposed by the U. S.
Food and Drug Administration.
Government experts told him
that his supposed medicine is of
no value, and hence must not
be labeled any more as a cure
for cancer.
Usually, in these cases, at his
court trial, a quack has had to
admit under oath that he never
studied medicine. Sometimes
he has had to admit that his ex
perience has been mainly in the
field of swindling, and that he
had done some time in jail. In
some cases the government
chemists have testified that his
"medicine' 'was just tap water.
That is all there is in the "can
cer cure" now most commonly
used throughout the United
States by shady characters. In
terestingly, under pressure from
the government authorities, the
promoter of this "cure" recent
ly fled overseas'. Last week two
men told me they were planning
to take all their savings to buy
some of this water for the treat
ment of their very sick wives.

why they do it; because people
write to scold me for not using
this column to boost the work of

"anti-Americanism" here on his
return from the United States,
the Asahi newspaper reported
today.
He said such a policy might
be "necessary" to push Japanese
demands, but that it should be
tempered.
He agreed Japan's policy must
be pro-Japan first.
"However," he said, "in the
sense that Japan's foreign pol
icy must have the United States
as its large, central axis, I am
not opposed to such a foreign
policy even if it is labeled un
compromisingly pro-United
States."

found by some layman we doc
tors would not only be to jeal
ous and too pig-headed to use it,
but we would not investigate it;
we would not know how won
derful it was, and worse yet,
through the supposed power of
our national medicine associa
tion we would prevent its use
throughout this country and the
world!
I cannot imagine a sillier idea,
because the day after a cure for
scattered cancer is found every
one in the world will know
about it; and within a few weeks
doctors in every corner of the
civilized world will be using it.
No one would want to inter
fere with its use, and no one,
not even a powerful govern
ment, could keep its people
from using it; no one could keep
the great drug houses from mak
ing it in ton-lots.
