'Holiday Revue' Seen
As Enjoyable Evening

Revue."

Hungry Five, the Medford high
school band, and the Kiwanis
Singing Chorus was well re
ceived, and numerous encores
were demanded of the second
act performance of the Kiwanis
Jazz band, which featured Mir
ick, Milo Kubalek,.(lay John
son, Jack Walker, Robert
Church and Dr. Edward Sickles.
Director Don Hansen, Los An
geles, who was all over the
stage keeping the performance
in line, must have felt well re
warded by the enthusiastic re
sponse of all the cast.
Attractive Additions
Kiwanian Dames are attrac
tive additions to the show, as
are the Mello Maids, the Danc
ing Sweethearts, and the Sing
ing Sweethearts.
The fashion show narrated by
professional Patti Rose made an
interesting note and even
brought comments from men in
the audience. O
Other scenes mcluded a hil
arious performance ofhe hula
dance by "Hilo Fattie," Jack
Walker; a lapidated Tarzan,
Dick Phair; Washington's Birth
day, followed by "The Minuet."
A Valentine's day with dancing
chorus; Lincoln's birthday,
which lent a serious and well
done touch; a Beachcomber
number by Bill Singler, Ab
Clark and Tom Anderson; the
Hula girls and the Sailorettes.
The poker-faced performance
of John PletscG Bill Bracker,
Billy Blackstone, Bob Messel
beck, Frank Perl andeEd Bar
nett, as members of the ship's
crew, was outstanding.
Even without the polish
which the remaining perform
ance of tonight, Friday and Sat
iday are sure to have the "Hol
iday Revue" makes an enjoy
aole evening and no one can
fail to appreciate the efforts of
the Medford Kiwanis club.

Salt Lake Expected
To Remain Salty Lake
Salt Lake City (U.R) A Utah
geologist has come up with some
reassuring news about Utah's
inland sea. The Great Salt Lake
probably will stay that way no
matter how much salt is distilled
from its briny waters, o
Dr. Armand J. Eardley, dean
of the University of Utah's Col
lege of Mines and Mineral In
dustries, said a million tons of
salt could be extracted annually
from the lake "with no detect
able loss" in the lake's salt
content.
Studies have jown that the
Great Qjalt Lake and its un
derclays hold at least 5.7 billion
tons of the chemical more than
enough to supply the nation's
pretzel, salted nut and saltine
cracker makers for the next eon,
he pointed out. q
And rivers replenish the salt
supply at an annual rate of 880,
000 tons.
However, Dr. Eardley added
an ominous note of warning
about the lake's water level. An
annual five-inch increase in
northern Utah's precipitation
would send lake levels lapping
at nearby Salt Lake City.
Such a sustained increase in
rainfall is unlikely, but the geol
ogist added that "the lake level
responds delicately to changes in
precipitation."
An increase of nine-tenths of
an inch annually, continued for
2,500 years, would extend the
"sea's" boundaries over the Utah
and Cache valleys flooding'

Drunk Driving Arrests Total 88 During January

superintendent of state police,
said today that during January
this year 88 persons were arrest-
driving, paying an aggregate of
$16,042 in fines.
There were also 58 arrests for
reckless driving and 11 arrests
for hit-run driving.
During the month the state
police received 458 complaints
and 246 were classified as
cleared.
Portland Population Seen as 1,400,000
Washington. (U.R) The maga
zine U. S. News & World Report
today predicted C population of
1,400,000 for metropolitan Port
land, by 1976. It estimated the
present population of Portland
and environs at 815,000.
The maggpine published in
the nation's capital predicted
that Portland would be the fifth
fastest growing metropolitan
area in the nation during the
4-H Club News
Antelope Livestock Club
The monthly meeting of the
Antelope 4-H Livestock club was
held Feb. 16 at the Antelope
school house. The meeting was
presided over by the Dairy club
members. We have six new mem
bers. Some are taking sheep,
some beef, and some forestry.
Lucy Gardener gave a report
on the Friendship Follies that
took place at the Medford High
school Feb. 21.
Next meeting we will learn to
make rope halters and use them
for prizes for the local fair in
August. On the refreshment com
mittee for next month are
Jossys, Murrays, and Malloroys.
The meeting next month will be
held at the Antelope School
house March 9.
