    Buxton School To
Reopen Following
Beating Charge
Hillsboro (U.R) The strife-
torn Scofield grammar school at
Buxton, , closed because of a
flareup which resulted in the
jailing of a school board mem
ber, is scheduled to be reopened
tomorrow with a substitute
teacher.
The Washington county grand
jury late yesterday indicted
Louis Forrest, 24-year-old board
member, on an assault and bat
tery charge. The charge stemmed
from the claim of Mrs. Essie
Robertson, 54-yeaf-old teacher at
the school, that she was beaten
on Feb. 14. She appeared before'
the grand jury yesterday.
Beard Members Resign
The school, which now has
14 students through the sixth
grade, was closed temporarily.
Austin Scrafford, county school
superintendent, said it would
open with a' substitute teacher
tomorrow morning until Mrs.
Robertson returns.
All members of the five-member
school board has resigned
except Forrest. They included
Mrs. Yula Fellas, a cousin of
Forrest, who has had differences
with the teacher.
Scrafford said he would de
liver handbills announcing a
special school election within
10 days.
Forrest has denied- striking
Mrs. Robertson. He said there
had been a scuffle in the school
over movement of some furni
ture and that she fell. Mrs. Rob
ertson suffered head injuries.
Officials said there had been
differences of opinion among
Buxton residents for some time
on many school matters.
