They will spend some time at the Halekulani hotel in Honolulu and later will visit other islands, including Kauai,

February is a popular month for winter vacations, and. many
Rogue valley residents have been on the list of travelers. Some
go south or on cruises in search of sunshine and interesting new
places, while others visit winter resorts to indulge in; such sports
as ice skating or skiing. f
In addition to today's pictures of winter travelers, , The Mail
Tribune presents a newcomer who arrived a short time ago from
her native Japan. The newcomer, Mrs. Chester Ernst and her
husband, a Navy veteran, flew to San Francisco where he was
discharged from the service and they are now living with relatives
at 2991 Springbrook road. . ' j

Dr. and Mrs. Raymond E. Balcomb are shown shortly after arriv-.
Jng by plane in Hawaii. Dr. Balcomb, pastor of Medford First Meth
odist church, was chosen to participate in an evangelistic mission, to .
Hawaii by the National Council of Churches of Christ; will preach at
Wakiawa on Oahu, and the Philippine church, Lahaina on Maui island. .

Mrs. Chester Ernst, Medford newcomer, is pictured here in her

flowers in her black hair. Mrs. Ernst, who describes the United States
as "so big," is rapidly adjusting to life here and has acquired some
-text books in order to learn more about her adopted country.
