Director To Speak
Walter Higgins, executive di
rector of the Rogue Valley Re
tirement Home, Inc., will speak
at the First Methodist church
Sunday, Feb. 19 at the 9:30 and
11 a.m. services.
Mr. Higgins, a Methodist lay
man, was formerly associated
with the Willamette View manor
in Portland, and he will describe
the need for the type of home
soon to be constructed in Med
ford. ; ,- "..
The Rogue Valley manor will
be built entirely from the fees
of those who purchase its ser
vices, and no solicitations of
money from the community or
from church members is made
at any time.
Dr. J. Thomas Dixon, associ
ate minister of the church, will
preside at the services. The
Children's choir, under the di
rection of Mrs. George Sloniger
and the Chancel choir, under the
' direction of Mrs. C. R. Adamson,
will sing and the soloist for both
services will be Mrs. George
Sloniger.
The first communion service
to be held in the newly opened
Meeker Memorial chapel will
be at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb.
19 with Dr. J. Thomas Dixon
: officiating."
Senior CE Members
To Conduct Worship
Young people of the Senior
Christian Endeavor will conduct
the worship service 'Sunday at
7:30 p.m. at the Friends church.
Donny Ditch, CE president, will
preside, and Kay Johnson will
be song leader.
Musical numbers will be a
trumpet-trombone duet by Jack
snd Jim Hamilton, solo by Ken
Kumasawa, and a mixed quar
tet, Pat Leek, Kay Johnson,
Gary Smith, and Ralph Waldo.
Devotional talks will be given
by Donny Ditch, Sonja Hansen,
Ken Kumasawa, Nadine Brood,
Gary Smith and Pat Leek.
Sunday school will be held at
9:45 a.m. Department superin
tendents are Dr. Wayne Roberts,
adults, Deane Roberts, inter
mediate, Mrs. R. B. Langston,
primaries, and Mrs. Eunice
Jones, beginners.

speak at the 11 a.m. worship.

at 11 a.m. at the. Bethel Assem

ave. He is a representative of the

ment and was Sunday school rep

assembly in regard to youth

school rally at 9:45 a.m., Sun
day at the Medford Assembly
of God, 1108 West Main st.
-The rally is being held in
conjunction with a revival cam
paign. A Bible will be given
to the person responsible for
bringing the most visitors to the
Sunday school.

Eastwood Speaker
Dr. Elmer C. Adams, execu
tive secretary for the Oregon
Baptist convention, will speak at
the Eastwood Baptist church
Sunday evening in connection
with ; the "Adventure in Mis
sions" being conducted by the
church.
Dr. Adams returned last fall
from a world tour of American
Baptist mission fields and will
show slides and tell about that
tour. The evening will begin
with a snack supper at 6 p.m.
and continue with study classes
for primary, junior, junior high
and adults age levels at 6:30 p.m.
Dr. Adams will speak at . 7:20
p.m. A nursery will be provided,
and families are invited.. The eve
ning will conclude at 8 p.m.
At the morning service, the
pastor, Richard M. Jones, will
speak on the theme, "The Out
stretched Hand."

will begin a series of Lenten ser
mons on "The Commands . of
God." The topic of Sunday's ser
mon will be "Hear." Later topics
will take up the commands, "Re
pent," "Remember," "Love" and
"Hope."
The first session of a , new
membership preparation class
will be held at 8 p.m., next Sun
day. The classes are intended for
all who are interested in becom
ing members of the church. A
series of six sessions is planned.

To Speak at Temple
The Rev. Elcho Redding, mis
sionary to India for an interde
nominational mission board, the
Evangelical Alliance mission,
will speak Sunday, Feb. 19 at
both the 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
services at Temple. Baptist
church, 794 Lozier lane.
The missionary and his family
are in Medford on furlough from
their mission field in India. The
Rev. Mr. Redding is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. Sam Redding of Med
ford. The family will attend the
services and the Rev. Mr. Red
ding will tell of experiences in
their field.
75,220, Oregonians
Receive Salk Shots ,
Portland U.P.) The State
Board of Health said today that
about 75,220 Oregonians had re
ceived the two shots of Salk polio
vaccine needed fir basic protec
tion. In the first overall report on
the .results of the campaign
which began last Spring, the de
partment said an estimated 242,
440 first, second and booster
shots had been administered up
to Feb. 1.
Dr. Harold M. Erickson, state
health officer, said the figures
were compiled for the U.S. Pub
lic Health service and : were
"rought' estimates based on ap
parent consumption of vaccine
rather than on repors from phy
sicians. The report indicated that less
than one-fifth of Oregon's 510,
000 eligible children under 15
and pregnant women had re
ceived their basic protection
against polio.
