Recently, at a convention, Dr.
George E. Morris, of Boston,
told of one of those many per
sons who suffer greatly and un
wittingly from some chemical
with which he comes in contact
in his office, or 'shop or in the
clothes he wears.
This man, during his days as
a leather tanner, had become so
sensitive to the chromium in the
tanning bath, that his hands kept
breaking out. Then his feet be
gan to break out because of con-

A. You apparently refer to
the Federal Wage and Hour Law
which set a $1 minimum hourly
rate beginning March 1. This law
applies only to, employees en

in the. production, of goods for
interstate, commerce, and there
are other' exemptions as well.

siere produced a reddish band
in the skin.
Women whose eyelids swell
and appear to be inflamed must
think of the possibility that a
new cosmetic is causing - the
trouble. Many a woman gets a

red spot where her. watch rests
on the skin due perhaps to a i
trace of nickel in the alloy.
Blondes, and red heads with
their extra-sensitive skins are
most likely to get into trouble.
I have known able surgeons who
had to quit their work and go
into another specialty .because
they could not stand the chem
icals used in scrubbing their
hands and I have known beauti
cians who had to quit beca ase
their hands could not stand the
chemicals used in their busi
ness. - ;
