Friday Night
St. Mary's of Medford puts its
unmarred Jackson County B
League record on the block
against Butte Falls here Friday
" night.
Talent will vie at Jacksonville
id Rogue River at Prospect al
so on Friday.
The Medford aggregation is
the favorite in its tussle but en
countered stiff opposition from
the Loggers early in the season
and could be in for a worrisome
evening again. Talent is expect
ed to roll at Jacksonville al
though the Redskins have shown
indications they'll be tougher for
the Bulldogs again,
Whale of Battle
Rogue River and Prospect
dould have a whale of a battle.
Prospect barely nicked the
Chieftains in the first half of
the season. The Chiefs, who
rose to a tie for fourth spot in
the circuit on Tuesday, have a
chance to knot for third position
this week.
. St. Mary's could have the
services of Tony Miksche again
tomorrow. He's missed the past
two games because of an ankle
sprain. Main hope is that
Miksche, regular center, will be
ready next week when the Cru
saders play at Talent in what
could be the conference decider.
Rogue River hopes at Prospect
could hinge on how well the gap
left by Bilbee Lane has been
filled. Lane transferred to Med
ford high.

Washington Gridiron Controversy
Hops Into State Political Arena
By B. J. McFARLAND
Seattle U.R) Football con
troversies, like? footballs, take
funny bounces and the gridiron
muddle at the University of
Washington today bounded right
into the political arena.
Rep. John L. O'Brien, speaker
of the House of Washington State
Legislature, said he felt a legis
lative investigation should be
made into the controversy.
O'Brien was to meet today
with members of the executive
committee of the Legislative
Council, which he heads, to delve
into the matter.
"We'll discuss a letter from
Rep. Richard Ruoff (R-Seattle)
asking for a. legislative investi
gation into the controversy
caused by the method in which
football Coach Johnny Cherberg
was fired,' O'Brien said. -
He said the executive commit
tee of the Legislative Council
probably would call in Univer
sity Vice-President H. P. (Dick)
Everest and Athletic Director
Harvey Cassill to discuss the sit
uation. "We need background infor
mation and facts on this matter
before a full-scale investigation
is started," O'Brien said.
Cherberg said he would, "wel
come a legislative investigation."
"I think an executive meeting
of the legislative leaders, me,
Everest and Cassill is the thing
to do," he said. "I'll tell the
lawmakers a lot of things they
may not know about this situ
ation." Gov. Arthur B. Langlie, who
earlier had no comment, said
last night it was his opinion
"that the political arena is not
the place to solve this. But, you
know how it is with politicians
they like to jump into the middle
of something that is juicy and
blow their own horns."
Langlie said he felt the uni
versity administration was "com
petent to handle this matter."
A Mistake
Langlie said he didn't see any
reason to step into the conflict
personally, but lie did think the
lawmakers -"are making a . mis
take" in getting into the act.

C. Andrade
Victor Over
Jim Carter
Chicago (U.R) Cisco Andrade
beat Jimmy Carter in a light
weight fight and picked up $500
additional for the chore, but
neither the winner nor the loser
was happy about the outcome
today.
"He wants a rematch," An
drade and his manager, Ralph
Gambina snorted. "Let him
make the weight and we'll give
him a rematch. Even if we got
the title, we'll give him a match.
But let . him make the weight
first."
"I thought I got robbed," Car
ter said softly. "I know I stag
gered him, and sure, he was
throwing those left jabs. But
I was blocking half of them
or more. I want.a rematch with
him, and I want a title fight,
and the D3C told me I ought
to have one."
It was a majority decision for
Andrade with Referee Joey
White' scoring 96-95 and Judge
E. Allen Frankel 95-94 for him
while Judge Lou Capparelli
gave it to Carter, 97-95.
Made Weight
Anrlrade eained his addition
al $500, in addition to 25 per
cent of the net of $2,877 paid
by 2,027 fans and $4,000 for
television, because Carter did
not make the stipulated weight
of 137 pounds. Instead the three
time champion weighed 140
compared to 136 for Andrade,
who gained his 32nd win in 35
pro bouts. :
Andrade piled up points
throughout the' bout with his
speedy left jabs and occasional
right hands. He also was credited
with the only knockdown of
the . fight, even though Referee
White didn't allow it.
That came in . the fourth
round when Carter, his nose
bleeding, staggered. A n dra d e
with a sharp right to the jaw.
As Andrade reeled toward the
ropes, his left hook connected
to Carter's chin and the former
titleholder went down.
