Medford Couples
On Winter Trips;
Nyes Leave Today
Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Winetrout
sailed Thursday on the liner
Queen Mary and will dock at
Cherbourg, France, from where
they will leave for a six or
seven month tour of foreign
countries. They will visit 14
countries, making the tour by
car.
Their itinerary includes
France, Italy, Switzerland, Ger
many, Spain, Denmark, Holland,
Portugal, Norway, Sweden, Lux
embourg, Finland, England and
Scotland.

Wedding
Held Here
The wedding December 31 of
Miss Donna Jean Neff and Duane
Gilbert -Daley was announced
last week. The ceremony was
read by Dr.- Thomas Dixon at
First Methodist church at 4
o'clock in the afternoon.
The bride is a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. James T. Neff, 763
Posse lane, and the bridegroom
is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter
P. Daliy, Jacksonville.
Mrs. RoberJ Johnson, Ashland,
was matron of honor and Mr.
Jonnson was best man.
Harold Johnson, Jacksonville,
seated the guests.
The bride was given in mar
riage by her father. Her gown
of nylon net and lace was de
signed with scoop neckline and
pushup sleeves. A headdress of
pearlized orange blossoms held
her veil and her flowers were
pink and white carnations. ,
Mrs. Johnson wore a pale blue
net ballerina length gown with
net jacket. Her bouquet was a
nosegay of pink and white car
nations. t
White chrysanthemums in bas
kets and candelabra decorated
the church. Miss Arleta
Knowles, Grants Pass, was solo
ist and Mrs. Ralph Schuchard
played the organ.
The reception was held in the
church rooms cand the serving
was done by candlelight. Mrs.
Quintin Jordon poured the
punch and Mrs. Frank Myers
served coffee.
The couple traveled' to the
Oregon coast for their honey
moon. They are living at 763 Vi
Posse lane. ' '
The bride is attending South
ern Oregon college and is a Med
ford senior high school gradu
ate. The bridegroom, who also is
attending SOC, is employed at
Fluhrer's bakeries. He was grad
uated from Klamath Union high
school.

Medford Woman
Observes Birthday
Mrs. Rosa Frohreich observed
her 87th birthday January 12
with an open house at her home
at 1012 Reddy avenue, where
she lives with a daughter, Miss
Mary Frohreich.
Mrs. Frohreich came to this
country from Germany when she
was 12 years old and lived in
Yankton county, South Dakota,
from the age of 14 until she
came to Medford In August,
1927. O
She has been a widow for the
past 33 years.
Eight of her children are liv
ing and six of them are residing
in this state. The other two make
their homes in Yankton, S. D
She has 31 grand children and
23 great-grandchildren.

Bridal Shower
Held on Sunda
For Miss Furry
Phoenix A bridal shower
was given for Miss Nannette
Furry at the home of. Mrs. Bert
Stancliffe, 115 Third street, last
Sunday afternoon. Miss Furry
is the bride-elect of Michael
Wrede, airman first class, who
is stationed at Yuma County Air
Force base in Arizona. The
couple will be married Febru
ary 11 at Sacred Heart church
in Medford.
The house was decorated with
arrangements of pink azaleas
and yellow jasmine. This color
scheme was used in the ar
rangement of a miniature bride
and groom and attendants for
the table decoration, and an
umbrella of azaleas and jasmine
was placed near the table which
held the various gifts Games
were played and dessert, was
served, with Mrs. Robert Furry
assisting.

The bride wore a coral knit
suit with navy blue accessories
Her corsage was of Australian
baby orchids.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Skinner
were the attendants.
The bride is a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Smith
of Sylvan Grove, Kans., and the
bridegroom is a son of Mrs. M.
A. Beneka.
They will make their home in
Medford.
Episcopal Women
To Hold Retreat
Women of St. Mark's Episco
pal church who plan to be in
Grants Pass .Tuesday, January
24 to attend a "quiet day" to be
conducted by the Rev. Mother
Ruth, are asked to be at St,
Mark's that morning at 8:30.

The all-day services at Grants
Pass will open at 9:30 .am and
will be held at St. Luke's Epis
copal church. The Rev. Mother
Ruth represents the Community
of Holy Spirit. '
All women of the church are
invited to participate.
Several Medford couples have
planned winter trips to Europe,
Mexico, or southern sections of
the United States.
Two local couples will depart
Thursday for an extended trip
into southwestern states and
Mexico. Mr. and Mrs. Michael
Beck, Forest creek, will be ac
companied in the Becks' car by
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Burk of
Medford. The four will stop first
at San Francisco and then con
tinue on to Los Angeles. From
there they will drive to Yuma,
Ariz., and on January 30 they
will leave Phoenix, Ariz., on
an 18-day trip to Mexico.
In addition to visiting several
cities in that country they will
be in Mexico City for several
days and spend some time at
Acapulco, a side-trip from the
Mexico capital.
They will return to Phoenix
and the Becks will remain there
for several days before continu
ing home. Mr. and Mrs. Burk
in the meantime will travel on
to Hollywood, Calif., to visit a
sister of Mr. Burk, to Compton
where they will be with his
brother and family and Laguna
Beach, where Mrs. Burk has an
aunt. "

are leaving today for New Or
leans, EaT, from where they will

Artists' Exhibit
To Open Monday
In Medford Store
An exhibit of paintings by j
valley artists will open Monday,
January 23 at Barker's Men's
store. The display will include
seven pieces of work by as many
different artists, and includes
two paintings by Grants Pass
artists. All of the pictures are
oils.
Robert Miller, private art
teacher, will exhibit a painting
which recently was included in
an exhibition at Southern Ore
gon college.
Benoyd S. Bayless Jr., Junior
high school art instructor, and a
member of the Portland Art Mu
seum group, will have on dis
play a painting which he in
cluded in a recent one-man
show at Eastern Oregon college,
La Grande.
Warren Wolf, Medford Senior
High school art instructor, has
chosen to exhibit one of his
paintings that recently was
shown at Sieberts for Modern
at Beaverton, Ore. .
Clifford Platz, who has been
invited for the third year by the
store management to arrange
such a display, will show one of
his works which is a blue ribbon
winner. Mr. Platz also has ex
hibited in numerous valley and
outside shows.
Mrs. Lue Wilson,' Central
Point, new to the colony of
painters, and a member of
Southern Oregon Society of Art
ists, will be one of the exhib
itors. Nicholas and Dorothy Mil
bank, a husband and wife team
of painters from Grants Pass,
will show blue ribbon winners
also. Mrs. Milbank won the
sweepstakes prize for the 1955
American Association of Univer
sity Women annual art show at
Grants Pass. She will enter a
painting which was accepted in
the Northwest Annual art show
at San Francisco last year and
which was given a blue ribbon.
Mr. Milbank will show the
entry which "Was accepted at a
1955 Seattle annual art exhibit
and which was awarded a blue
ribbon there.

to visit with their son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Dwyer Jr,., 1216 Winchester
street. They will be here for
about two weeks and a dinner is
planned in their honor this week
to be attended by other rela
tives. From here the Stahlevs
will go to Twenty-Nine Palms,
Calif., where they will make

The Rev. George R. V. Bolster
will be the speaker for Crater
Lake chapter, Daughters of the
American Revolution, at a meet
ing set for Saturday, January
28 at Girls Community club. His
subject will be, "Responsibility
of the Church and the Home in
Preserving Our American Way
of Life."
Mrs. G. R. Carter will report
on eight schools which are par
ticipating in the good citizen
ship contest sponsored annually
by the chapter. State winner
will receive $100 saving bond
and the district winner will re
ceive a S25 bond.
Delegates to the state confer
ence in Albany March 22 to 24
will be selected at the meeting.
