Mrs. Stanley Berger, who came to Medford not long ago from
Lewiston, Ida., is the newvdirector of the women's program for Med
ford YMCA. Mrs. Berger held a similar position with the Lewiston ,
YWCA and is now busy formulating plans for special classes for the
"Y" here. These will include recreational activities, arts and crafts,
self-improvement classes and others which may be desired.

Mrs. Mildred Tolle is the new excellent chief of Talisman temple,
Pythian Sisters. Mrs. Tolle has held office in the temple since 1949,
having been elected guard that year and succeeded to the various
offices each year until her election to the post of presiding officer.
Her daughter, Judith, is a member . of . Talisman Rosebud council,
Pythian Sunshine Girls, and holds office in that group.

Mrs. Robert J.' Keeney was elected president of Jackson County
Republican Women at the group's January meeting Monday at the
Medford YMCA. Mrs. Keeney served the club as vice-president this past
year and has worked on numerous committees for this active political
organization. Mrs. Keeney is also a member of the Jackson County
Public Welfare commission and wife of one of the city's architects.

Edward C. Kelly and his daughter. Miss Noreen Kelly, are one of
two father-daughter attorney teams in the state of Oregon, the other
being B.' A. Kliks and his daughter, Dorothy, who practice in Portland.
Miss Kelly first attended Marylhurst and was graduated from the
University of Oregon Law school. Miss Kelly, her mother and father
are all active in the Democratic party in Oregon.

The names of many Jackson county women have been in the
news during January. Some have assumed leadership duties with
fraternal, religious or political groups, others are carrying on special
projects for organizations to which they belong and still others are
in the news because of their professions.
One young woman, Miss Noreen Kelly, returned to Medford
from a tour of Europe and has begun the practice of law with
her father, the pair being one of two father-daughter law firms
in Oregon.
A newcomer to Medford in the news is Mrs. Stanley Berger,
new director of women's activities for the Medford YMCA. With
the cooperation of other YMCA workers and community leaders,
Mrs. Berger plans an expanded women's program which will
include special classes aimed at home improvement, self-improvement
and recreation for homemakers and women in the business

The president of the Philharmonic guild is Mrs. Tom Popham. The
guild, organized about a year ago to support the .activities of the
Philharmonic Society of Southern Oregon, is now busy publicizing the
next concert of the Philharmonic orchestra, to be given Sunday, Jan
uary 29. It will be held at Medford Senior High school auditorium
and will feature Paulena Carter, pianist, at soloist with the orchestra.
One of the active groups of professional women in Jackson county is District 4, Oregon State Nurses', associa
tion, and the local unit recently had two state officers as visitors. Pictured during the meeting are (left to right)

Mrs. Bert R. Elliott (at left) and Mrs. Lester Harris are the first two women ever to be elected to the board of
elders of First Presbyterian church here. Mrs. Elliott has taught in the church's Sunday school for 18 years and at
present instructs a junior high school class of girls. She also has worked in the Woman's association and circles.
Mrs. Harris, who operates her own kindergarten, also teaches in the junior department of the church Sunday
school and has been active in f irst Presbyterian church since the Harris family moved here several years ago.
