Short, president of the Ameri
can 'Rheumatism association,
stated that fig
ures show that
the severe
painful type of
arthritis, - call
ed "rheuma
toid" is likely
to begin or to
get worse in
the winter
months.

havers made tne following sug
gestion to patients with severe
arthritis: On going out bundle
up. and keep warm. When neces
cary use overshoes. Avoid fa
tigue and rush and emotional
strain. Take enough food so as
to keep well ndurished.
A miserable disease of the
lungs is called Emphysema.
What happens is that the walls
of thousands of tiny air sacs tend
to break down, making larger
and larger sacs which have a les-
sened aggregate surface for the
passage of oxygen from the air
into the red blood cells in the
blood vessels. This leads to inef
ficient aeration of the blood, and
as a result, the man feels short
of breath and asthmatic. Many a
man who thinks he has chronic
heart disease or asthma really
has emphysema. His lungs' lose
their natural elasticity, and this
is bad. The chest tends to get big
and to stay big and barrel-shaped,
with the muscles in the neck
contracted. The man tends to
have an anxious look, and per
haps a slight blue tinge in his
skin due to the defective aera
tion of his blood.
Now come Drs. Francis C.
Lowell, William Franklin, Alan
L. Michelson and I. W. Schiller,
of Boston, to report a study of
40 emphysematous patients that
showed that all got into. trouble
after the age 'of 40 and after
many years of heavy smoking.
Dr. Alvarez regrets he hasn't
the time in which to read or an
swer requests for information.

engineer "until Jan. ,1, 1957 by
the county court.
. The appointment was made so
Rynning's appointment will' co
incide with the elective term of
county surveyor, an office held
simultaneously with that of en
gineer. ' .
The order by the court clears
up a discrepancy which in the
past made the terms end at dil-
ferent dates. Rynning's last ap
pointment ended July 1, 1955.

give a person a second chance
when they see he is anxious to
turn over a new leaf. The per
son who thinks more of her own
reputation than of helping an
other who is down and out does
not win the admiration and re
spect, she wants.

son, even if he did get into an
argument with him. But he has

his misconduct by serving a term
in jail. . "
More Trouble Possible
Unless you want him to go
back to jail, it is up to you to
help your husband give his
brother another start in life. If
his family turns against him and
does not help him now, he is
likely to get into trouble again
and be back in jail in a very
short time.
I am sure that many people
will not turn against you for
helping your brother-in-law, as
you seem to fear they will. Of

but there will be others, and
many more I am sure, who will
feel you are doing the right

It is never pleasant for a fam

the family to help each other

band's family, his relatives are
your relatives and you should
help them just as j9u would the

yesterday Russia is now "second
only to the United States" in
naval power. He said any delays
in building up an atomic age
U.S. naval fleet may be "fatal."

Services - Committee for ap
proval of a $1,429,000,000 Navy
shipbuilding program. It in

supercarrier, six more atomic
