Bathing Suit Pictures Blamed
For Attack on California Beauty
Santa Ana, Calif. 0J.fi) A
25-year-old father confessed to
day that bathing suit pictures of
beauty contest winner Donna
May Schurr, 18, drove him to
kidnap and rape her a second
time even though he had a
hunch he would be caught.
Sheriff's deputies said Jack
James Walker, married and the
father of a child, readily ad
mitted he had twice attacked
the blue -eyed, brown -haired
beauty by threatening her with
a knife.
Identifies Assailant
Walker was identified as her
assailant by Miss Schurr, who
was a runner-up in the Miss USA
contest and placed fourth as Miss
California of 1955 in the Miss
Universe international beauty
pageant.
Walker, an upholsterer, was
captured Tuesday night by Mis3
Schurr's fiance in a 100-mile-an-hour
chase shortly after the sec
ond attack.
Walker told deputies, "I had
a feeling I'd get caught." Depu
ties said he seemed unperturbed
by the charges against him. He
was booked on suspicion of kid
naping, burglary and criminal
attack.
Developed 'Yen' for Girl
Walker said he developed "a
yen" for Miss Schurr when she
posed for an advertising firm for
which he works. The suspect
told deputies he first attacked
Miss Schurr last March 26 when
she worked in a drive-in theater..
The second attack was de
scribed by the hysterical beauty.
She told deputies she heard a
noise in her home Tuesday night.
"I saw him (Walker) coming
down the hall," the beauty told
officers. "He had a knife in his
hand. I grabbed for the knife
and it cut me across the palm of
my left hand."
The beauty said "we drove to
an unoccupied housing tract"
near her home. Walker, she said,
forced her into a partly-completed
house and criminally as
saulted her.
Squad Car Joins Chase
The fiance, Lloyd Brett, 21,
arrived at Miss Schurr's home
just as the kidnaper was releas
ing her. Brett drove in pursuit
of Walker's car in a high-speed,
wild race through dark and nar
row back streets. A California
ticed the chase and joined in.
Orange County Sheriff jSmes
Musick said he would ask the
death penalty for Walker under
California's "Little Lindbergh
Law," which allows a death sen
tence in kidnap cases in which
the victim is harmed or injured.
Woman's Gun Spree
Puzzle To Husband
Fowler, Calif. (U.R) A
grief stricken father was at a
loss today to explain why his
pretty, redhaired wife shot their
two small sons with' his 30-30
deer rifle and then committed
suicide.
"I can't understand why she
killed them," Vincent McNam
ara said. "They had- everything
to live for. If it had just been
her, it wouldn't have been so
bad."

How long before an expected
birth should a career woman
wife give up working at the of
fice? How long after the birth
should she return to the job? In
Uruguay the law is that a work

child's birth, and rest for a
month after. Her position is held
for her. She is given haff pay
for the period. It is also a law in
Uruguay that every , employed
woman must work seated. No

still think the female is the
weaker sex.

Say, young fellow, are you
trying to win the affectionate

employing? Are you using psy

the lady's heart and hand? Ac
cording to some psychologists, a
very effective way to advance
your interests with a young
woman is to give her a pet
nickname. Call her "precious,"
"Bobo," "Lovey," "Honeybunch"
or something along those lines.
If she is redhaired, be certain
to get something connected with
her hair coloring in your pet
name. Call her "Rusty," "Brick

Watchdogs
The best watchdogs are fe

the species is much' deadlier than
the male. The male watchdog

Winslow said.
"McNamara told me that the

Winslow said the youngest

in his tiny bed.
Missed First Shot
"The other youngster evi

the woman shot at him once and
missed him. Then she. shot at

why she killed the kids."
