Slide Blocks Road
After passing the Paine ranch
on the Klamath river, a slide
blocked the road. Because the
road was narrow it was impos
sible to turn the car around.
Leaving his family in the car,
Wilson went to Paine's where
he phoned Copco to send a truck
to try to rescutPhis family. The
truck started out at once, but
the Jennie creek bridge was
washed out, and was unable to
proceed.
By 2 a.m. no helpiad arrived
and Wilson returned to Paine's.
The Siskiyou county sheriff's of
fice in Yreka vsk (galled for
assistance. But help could not be
obted because Highway 99
was under water.
Paine then called Hornbrook
Constable Everett Elmore "who
started up rathe river. , He was
stopped at the Protsman ranch
wheregjthere was more than five
feet of water over the road.
Paine then called Paul Visher
of the Black Mountain ranch?
He started out on hiS-j tractor,
but he, too, was halted at the
Protsman's.
Borrows Truck
Visher then hiked through
rain and 'the mud to the Tull
ranch where he borrowed a pick
up truck and drove to Paine's
ranch. Paine and Wilson then
starts out with food and hot
coffee for the Wilson family
