The Christmas Story
Every year the story of Christmas is told and retold in churches
throughout the United States. In many congregations the Christmas
pageant is a favorite manner of repeating this beautiful story, with
young people representing Joseph, Mary, angels, the shepherds and
the three Wise Men.
Two Medford churches, First Methodist and Adyent Christian,
were among those which staged traditional pageants in recent days.
Pictured here are the Virgin Mary as portrayed by Maralee Chisholm
of First Methodist church; and scenes from the two programs. Children
and young people of First Methodist church are shown (below right)
in the final scene of the pageant given at their church, and a scene
from the pageant at Advent Christian church is pictured (below left).
In the words of the program notes supplied to those who attended
the First Methodist church pageant "The tableaux in which we present
the story are like great paintings. Their meaning depends not only
on what is portrayed here, but upon the spirit in which you come."
