On The Side
By E. V. DURLING
(Distributed by King Feature!

If I chance to meet
With a woman fair and sweet.
She my loyalty shall obtain,
Lovlns her for love again.
But when we have tried each :
other.
If she better like another.
Let her quickly change from
me;
Then to change am I as free.
He or she that loves too long
Sells their freedom for a song.
BEAUMONT
How is your weight for a man
of your age and height? If you
don't know check same on a
health chart at once. Having the
right weight is a major secret of
longevity. How about your
paunch or "corporation"? Does
it bulge excessively? Sir William
Arbuthnot Lane, celebrated sur
geon, believed the larger a man's
paunch the less his chances for
a long life. Sir William said: "I
can tell when a man is going to
die by one look at his paunch.
At banquets I pick them out. I
say to myself for example: 'A
man with a paunch like that will
last about eight years.'And I am
always right."
Asking
Queries from clients. Q.
What are the three best hotels
in Paris? A. Plaza-Athenee,
Lancaster and the Ritz. .. . Q.
Who wrote the song titled, "I
Could Love a Thousand Girls"?
A. Edgar Allan Woolf and Cas-
sius Freeman. That's the song
Harry Short, of the cast of Mam
zelle Champagne, had just fin
ished singing before Harry Thaw
shot Stanford White on the Mad
ison Square Garden roof.
So They Say
Aquarian (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
males are fond of being moth
ered by their wives. Are dis
tinctly the "little boy that never
grows up" type. They have an
appeal for the highly domesti
cated "home girl" type of female
who is heavily endowed with
the maternal spirit but eventu
ally have a tendency to prove
bores to sophisticated, exper
ienced women of the world. Or
so say the stargazers. (Note
Clark Gable is an. Aquarian.)
Passing By
Gladys Cooper. Distinguished
British actress. On Christmas day
this year she will celebrate her
50th year in the theater. Early
in her career Gladys was one of
the extremely glamorous chor
ines of Georges Edwardes' Gai
ety Theatre company. And in
common with many Gaiety girls
she married into the nobility.
Efficiency
Efficiency experting reaches a
high peak in Los Angeles. It was
a Los Angeles efficiency expert
who originated a ham slicing
machine that is said to cut the
world's thinnest slice of ham for
sandwiches. This was designed
to save money for restaurants,
fountain lunch counters, etc. An
other Los Angeles efficency
man, working for a cemetery,
had the size of the graves re
duced from 33 and a third square
feet to 30 square feet. He pointed
out the reduction would make it
possible to bury more people. in
the cemetery's vacant area and
thus substantially increase the
profits.
Lucky Trio
A trio of young women who
have available an unusually ex
tensive wardrobe are three sis
ters of Boston who all wear the
same size clothes from hats to
shoes. They are all five feet five
and weigh about 120 pounds.
They have a system of borrowing
each others clothes which en
ables them to live in perfect
harmony.
Sidelights
"It was a brave man who first
ate an oyster," observed Dean
Swift. How right he was. Author
ities on the subject say the only
proper way to eat an oyster is to
eat it raw . . . The champion
American mother of all time was
Mary Austin, Civil War nurse,
who in 33 years of married life
gave birth to 13 pairs of twins
and six sets of triplets . . . The
average American says a statis
tician, gets his hair cut every
four weeks. I get a haircut every
week.
