Sub-zero cold gripped the na
tion's north today and a new
Pacific storm doused the West
Coast with rain and snow.
Temperatures fell steadily in
the northern Midwest following
a week end blizzard. In Wis
consin early today it was an icy
15 below at both Grantsburg
and Wausau and 12 below at
Eau. Claire.
It was even colder in the cen
tral Rockies, where Fraser,
Colo., became the nation's ice
box with 16 degrees below zero.
Winds of 35 miles per hour, with
gusts up to 52 mph, brought
added shivers to Southeast Wyo
ming. On the West Coast, more rains
were expected in the vake of a
Pacific storm which spread rain
from Central California into the
Pacific Northwest and dumped
moderate to heavy snows on the
mountain areas.
The rains caused some power
failures yesterday and forced a
work stoppage on the Islais creek
railroad bridge in San Francis
co, delaying movement of some
Southern Pacific ' commuter
trains as much as 90 minutes. '
Texas reported up to 3Vi inch
es of fast-melting snow in the
Amarillo area and cold weather
also, spread over all of the na
tion's eastern third, sparing only
Maine and Florida. Syracuse,
N.Y.,. got two inches of, snow
in a 24-hour period and one
inch was measured at Erie, Pa.

Threatened Spokane
Bus Strike Averted
Spokane (U.R) ,A threat
ened bus strike here was evert
ed late yesterday when repre
sentatives of Spokane city lines
and the AFL bus drivers union
reached agreement on a new con
tract. The agreement is subject to a
vote of the union membership
but the union negotiators agreed
to recommend that it be acepted.
Under terms of the agree
ment, the drivers will get a two
cent hourly wage boost retroac
tive to April 1 and another 10
cents an hour Jan. 1. Retiring
drivers , will get an additional
$5 a month pension.

shock to her whole nervous sys

to get over the effects for a year
or more. It may take that long
or longer for her to get over the
shock of her mother's death.
However, she will not get over
it by brooding. Unquestionably,
she is blaming herself for hav
ing been away when her mother
died and this self-reproach is in
tensifying her emotional state.
If she could be persuaded to
give vent to her grief, by crying
or talking about it,' she would
get over it sooner. As it is, she
bottles up her emotional states,
causing her to behave as if life
were meaningless to her.

suggest you ask him to recom
mend a psychiatrist.

Snowstorm Stalls
Sugar Beet Harvest
Ontario (U.R) A surprise
snow storm which dumped more
than two inches, of snow on the
Ontario area yesterday brought
the local sugar beet harvest to
a standstill.
Officials of the Amalgamated
sugar company said that comple
tion of the harvest would prob
ably be delayed beyond this
coming week end, the original
deadline.
They estimated that one per
cent of the crop, or about 10,000
tons of beets, was still in the
ground.
