Don't throw away those little
left-over dabs of pimiento. Just
freeze them in any freezer con
tainer. Then, when you need a
touch ot pimiento for a colorful
casserole, break off any amount
from the frozen pieces and add it
to your dish without defrosting.

Ford Foundation's
Fund Scrutinized
Washington :U.R) The House
Un-American Activities Commit
tee has disclosed that it is inves
tigating the Ford Foundation's
Fund for the Republic.
Chairman Francis E. Walter
(D-Pa.) said he is "sure" the in
quiry will blossom into full pub
lic hearings early next year.
Walter told newsmen that
committee investigators have
been checking into the Ford-financed
educational group ever
since its 1954 annual report took
issue with Congress for legisla
tion branding the Communist
party as an "international con
spiracy." The foundation, Walter said,
"criticized the Congress for
branding a 'political party' as a
'international conspiracy.' "
The fund twice has been in
vestigated by congressional com
mittees. The groups have
checked into reports that some
tax - exempt educational and
philanthropic foundations have
sponsored or encouraged un
American causes.
Rep. B. Carroll Reece (R
Tenn.), who headed a special
House committee during the Re
publican controlled 83rd Con
gress, charged in a House speech
that the foundation was a "king
sized civil rights congress," out
to protect the rights of Commun
ists and to "attack" the Congress.

Insofar as loud radio and TV
playing are concerned things are
tough all over the world. In Pa
tras, Greece, the members of two
families, 10 on each side, engag
ed in a battle with knives in
which two persons were killed
and several seriously injured.
What was the cause of this bitter
battle? It started because one of
the families refused to turn
down the radio when requested
to do so.

Traffic
From First to Ninth avenue,
in midtown Manhattan, is less
than a mile, but owing to the
horrible handling of the traffic
situation it often takes 'a taxi
cab a half hour to travel that
distance. Yes sir, when you trav
el through midtown Manhattan
crosstown traffic in daytime
your speed is less than two miles
an hour!
As It Was
A common failing among cele
brated actors of yesterday seems
to have been a strong and uncon
trolled liking for alcoholic bev
erages. That is why so' many
stage managers , of yesteryear
were prematurely gray haired.
One such stage manager entered
the dressing room of a star just
before curtain time and found
the actor very much inebriated.
"Never in my life," said the stage
manager to the star, "have I
seen a man as drunk as you
are." The star said. "Is that so.
Wait until you see my under

Who was the organizer and
president of the first commercial
aviation company in the United
States to carry passengers on
regular flights? Why, sir, it was
none other than that justly cele
brated Hollywoodian, Cecil B.
DeMille. Thirty-seven years ago,
in 1918, Mr. DeMille organized
and became the prexy of the
Mercury Aviation company of
Hollywood, Calif., which was the
first passenger airline in this
country.
Asking
Queries from clients, Q. Has
there ever been a popular song
written about Los Angeles? I
knean something like "Back to
Baltimore," "Sidewalks of New
York," "The Belle of New Or
leans," "Chattanooga Choo Choo"
etc. A. Offhand I cannot think
of such a song. However, quite
a few cities and towns adjacent
to the City of Los Angeles have
been the subjects of popular
songs. As for examples, "When
I Play the Harmonica for Ver
onica Down on the Pier at Santa
Monica," "Molly Wood of Holly
wood," and "The Lady from
Twenty-Nine Palms."
Problem
The Bank of New York was
founded in 1784. If S5 was de
posited in that bank the year it
opened and remained there until
this year at a rate of 5 per cent
compound interest", what would
the amount of the deposit now
be? If you have a high school
co-ed daughter who is studying
mathematics, have her figure out
the answer for you.
Passing By
Lou Brecker. Maestro of the
celeb ed Roseland Dance hall
in New York. That dance palace
has not been closed a single night
in 36 years. Its hostesses were
the inspiration of the song titled
"Ten Cents a Danc. However,
Roseland does not have dance
hostesses now. The majority of
its customers come in pairs, mar
ried couples and sweethearts.
The introduction of the dance
known as the mambo is credited
with having doubled Roselands
business.
Perfect Hand
It is said the most perfect
hand ever painted is the right
hand of Mona Lisa in the paint
ing by Leonardo da Vinci. If
you know a woman who thinks
she has beautiful hands, or a
girl who wants to be a hand mod
el, call this to her attention. Have
her look at a copy of the Mona
Lisa.
