year-old ex-convict, who casually
admitted the kidnap-slaying of
a Kansas City, Mo., housewife,
faced today still other charges
of attempted murder, kidnaping,
rape, burglary and car theft.
The suspect, Arthur Ross
Brown, had vowed never to be
taken alive. He was arrested yes
terday without a struggle when
FBI agents and police found him
asleep in a stolen car with two
loaded pistols at his feet.
An 'FBI agent testified at a
bail hearing yesterday that the
stocky, blond ex-convict admit
ted the kidnap-slaying of Wilma
Allen, the attractive 34-year-old
wife of a wealthy Kansas City
automobile dealer last Aug. 4.
Held on Bond
U. S. Commissioner Joseph
Karesh ordered Brown held on
$100,000 bond pending action by
Kansas City authorities. He was
held on a charge of transporting
a stolen car across the state lines.
Mrs. Allen's nude body was
found in a field 25 miles from
Kansas City three days after she
disappeared from a fashionable
shopping area. She had been
shot twice in the back of the
bead.
The FBI said Brown confess
ed he forced his way into Mrs.
Allen's car and made her drive
out of town where he killed her
and dumped her body in a field.
He drove the blood-spattered car
back to Kansas City and adban
doned it near the Union Station.
Intensive Police Hunt
The murder of Mrs. Allen, a
mother of two boys, ages nine
and eleven, touched off the most
G intensive Kansas City police hunt
since the kidnap-slaying of Bob
by Greenlease in 1953.
Federal authorities said Brown
was also wanted for investiga
tion of burglary, attempted mur
der and assault in Sheridan, Wyo.

Nun Plans To Take
Plea Before Pope

nun planned today to appeal to
the Pope against a British
court's rejection of her claim for
damages from her mother supe
rior and a nursing home on the
ground they falsely imprisoned
her.
Sister Priscilla, 57, whose real
name is Margaret McCann, said
she had twice written Pope Pius
XII but "I don't know if my let
ters ever got there."
Sister Priscilla charged that
she had been assaulted and im
prisoned bv Mother Plascidus
local superior of the Order of
the Poor Sisters of Nazareth at
Hammersmith.
She further charged that she
was imprisoned and assaulted at
St. Joseph's nursing home,
whose trustees include Bernard
Cardinal Griffin, Catholic Pri

Search Continues
For Newport Hunter
Newport, Ore. (U.PJ --Search
continued today for a 30-year-
old hunter reported missing in
the Kings Valley area since last
Thursday.
The hunter was identified as
Jerald Powe, who lives eight
miles east of Toledo.
Benton County Sheriff, C. N.
Lilly said a thorough search of
the Kings Valley region showed
no sign of Powe or his automo
bile. Lilly said he may have
changed his mind and gone hunt
ing somewhere else.
