News of Three Engagements
Announced Here Last Week
A triple engagement story is
of unusual interest this week.
Announcement has been made
of the engagement of Mrs. Ruth
Huntley, Medford to Earle
Hoover, Wimer, Ore.; of the en
gagement of Mrs. Huntley's
daughter, Miss Bertha Allen, to
Don Copley, Eagle Point, and
of the betrothal of Miss Gayle
Sweeney, Medford, to Mr. Cop
ley's twin brother, Dale Copley.
News of the mother-daughter
engagements was made known
at a dinner given recently at the
home of Mrs. Huntley's son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Hugh Huntley, 2179 Crater Lake
avenue. Hosts ' for the dinner
were the Hugh Huntleys and
another son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Huntley,
Mrs. Huntley makes her home
in Medford at 32 South Orange
street. Mr. Hoover is the son
of Mrs. Alberta Hoover, 106
South Orange street.
Miss Allen attended Medford
Senior High school and her fi
ance, Don Copley, is now a sen
ior at Eagle Point High school.

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Beers en
tertained at a dinner to honor
their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Don
ald Beers- on her birthday No
vember 8. Those present were
Mrs. Beers' grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. C. C. Sanderson of
Sams Valley, Mr. Beers' great
uncle, Charles Magerle of Pros
pect and the honored guest and
husband and two children, David
Lee and Linda Sheryl.
Later in the evening other
guests calling on Mrs. Beers
were Mr. and Mrs. Milton San
derson, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd San
derson, Jerry. Barbara and Mary,
all of Sams Valley, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Sanderson and daughter,
Judy, Karen and Joyce, Trail.
Mrs. Beers received many gifts
to help her remember the occasion.

He is a son of Mr. and Mrs.
A. R. Copley, Route 1, Box 115,
Eagle Point.
Miss Sweeney is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Sweeney,
714 Beekman street, Medford,
and is a senior at Medford High
school. Her fiance, Dale Copley,
is also a student at Eagle Point
High school. Both young people
are active in youth groups of
First Baptist church, Medford.
No wedding dates have been
announced.
School Observes
Education Week
In observance of American
Education week, Washington
school held open house Tuesday
evening. From 7:30 until 8 p.m.
a "browsing period" was held.
Teachers were in their respective
rooms to meet the parents and
samples of each child's work
was displayed on his desk. At 8
p.m. the school age children re
ported to the gymnasium where
movies were shown for their
enjoyment.
Parents then went to their
child's room where the teacher
spoke briefly about the curric
ulum. For the parents of children
in grades one through four this
was a 25-minute period, while
parents of fifth and sixth grad
ers were given their child's daily
schedule to follow through in
ten minute periods.
The PTA held a baked foods
sale in the cafeteria and a des
sert counter was open during the
entise evening.
Club Has Program
On House Plants
Eagle Point Roll call on "A
house plant problem I have"
and, a symposium on house
plants was the program for the
November meeting of the Eagle
Point federated garden club.
Mrs. John Huffman was mod
erator for the program panel.
Mrs. Glenn Clymer talked on
Flowering House Plants," and
Mrs. -Ray Harnish, "Plants for
the Situation." Mrs. Dale Acker-
man discussed "Vines in The
Home."
Mrs. Francis Putman will rep
resent the Blue Bird group at
future club meetings.

The arrangement of the month
was a Thanksgiving table ar
rangement made of bronze chry
santhemums in a wood container
made by Mrs. Otto Nagel.
' Prizes were given Mrs. Victor
Hay, Mrs. Francis Putman and
Mrs. Ruby Stowell.
Mrs. Otto Nagel was hostess
with Mrs. Ira Fitzgerald as co-
bostess.
The December meeting will
be an all day meeting. Special
committies will decorate the
home of the hostess, Mrs. Clar
ence Davies, in an appropriate
Christmas manner.

Matrons club will meet for a
covered dish dinner Thursday,
November 17 at 6:30 p.m., at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Head, 1415 Euclid avenue. ,

Methodists Plan
Annual Bazaar
At Church Here
"Christmas festival" is the
theme for the annual bazaar
Women's Society of Christian
Service of the First Methodist
Church will sponsor Tuesday,
December 6, according to Mrs.
L. G. Rankin, president of the
organization.
Hand-made articles which will
be displayed in ten carefully ar
ranged booths will include
aprons from the tiny ones to
the practical cobbler. There will
be pillow cases, children's ac
cessories, doll clothes, stuffed
animals, Christmas stockings,
candles and .a special display
of Christmas tree balls and orna
ments created by Mrs. C .E.
Bradfish and a group of assist
ants. Mrs. J. T. Dixon- and Mrs.
Harry Meyers are co-chairman
for this year's bazaar. The three
Wesleyan Service guilds and the
Methodist Youth Fellowship
will also have booths.
The executive committee of
the Women's Society also voted
at a meeting last week to serve
luncheon during the noon hour,
to hold a tea and coffee hour in
the afternoon, and a dinner from
5:30 p.m. until the close of the
evening.
PTA Plans
Workshop
Mrs. Clyde Gideon, Portland,
legislative chairman of the Ore
gon Congress of Parents and
Teachers, will conduct a work
shop in the social hall of the
Medford YMCA, Wednesday.
November 16 from 2 to 4 p.m.
This is one of a series of work
shops being conducted through
out the state at this time. A spec
ial invitation is extended to local
unit chairmen and school per
sonnel, but the workshop is open
to all interested persons, Mrs.
Gideon states.
Basis for the workshop will
be five of the main issues that
will come before citizens during
the ensuing year who are in
terested in the regional and state
needs in- the fields of education
and child welfare, it is stated.
Mrs.- Gideon will also discuss
some of the mechanics of PTA
legislative work, such as getting
audience participation in the
education program concerning
legislative issues and how to give
the audience some tangible re
sults of group meetings on legis
lative problems. There will be
time for local questions.
Mrs. Gideon will be assisted
by Mrs. Russell Case, Portland,
Oregon Congress first vice-pres
ident. Local arrangements for
the workshop have been com
pleted by Mrs. W. C. Ardry.

Jackson County Council PTA
president.

Four Units
Four county home extension
units will meet this week. Bas
ket weaving will be the lesson
for all.
Central Point Women of the
Central Point unit plan their
meeting Wednesday, November
16 with a coffee hour to be con
ducted from 10 to 10:20 a.m.
The session will be held at the
Grange hall.
Mrs. Otis Hill and Mrs. L. C.
Gorden will be project leaders.
Mrs. Charles Jantzer will give
a briefing on gift wrapping.
Unit members are selling
Christmas and occasional cards.
Hostesses for the meeting will
be Mrs. L. H. Wertz and Mrs.
A. T. Lathrop. Child care will
be provided at the home of Mrs.
Eunice Jones, 235 Laurel street.
A small charge will be made
for the gift wrapping and weav
ing materials.
Members are asked to take
"Queen Bess" coupons to use to
ward a silver tea service for
Azalea house. Mrs. Arthur
Straus, unit president, will col
lect the coupons.
Rogue-Elk The session for
Rogue-Elk unit, set for Wednes
day, November 16 at 10:30 a.m.,
will be the second in the basket
weaving project and will be in
structed by Mrs. William Bishop
and Mrs. Ralph Lane. Tools will
be needed. The meeting will be
held at the home of Mrs. Oscar
Hanson, Elk-Creek road.
The gift wrapping lesson will
be given by Mrs. Ersal Myers
and Mrs. George Tockstein. A
box, paper and laminated paper
will be needed for each mem
ber. Luncheon will be served by
Mrs. Oscar Hanson, Mrs. Harry
Casebier and Mrs. Harry
Nicholson.
Shady Cove Mrs. Max Hawks
will be the hostess for the Shady
Cove unit Tuesday, November 15
at 10 a.m. This also is the second
lesson in basketry for the group
and leaders will be Mrs. William
Bishop and Mrs. Hawks.
Mrs. Al Cooper and Mrs. B.
Nork are to give the second part
of the gift-wrapping project.
Anyone interested in the proj
ects are invited.
Sams Valley The demonstra
tion on gift wrapping for 1ie
Sams Valley unit will begin at
10:30 a.m.. when the group
meets Tuesday, November 15 at
the home of Mrs. Herman Priem.
Luncheon will be served at
noon by a committee and the
afternoon will be devoted to the
weaving ' lesson. Further infor
mation regarding the project or
the meeting can be had by call
ing Mrs. Earl Peffley or Mrs.

at the Holland hotel at 6:30 p.m.
Initiation ceremonies will follow

Lodge to Hold
Annual Event
Medford Lodge No. 103, A. F.
and A. M., will celebrate the an
nual past masters' night on
Saturday, November 19.
Feature of the evening will
be a dramatic presentation of
the master Mason degree in full
form. The first section will be
conferred at 4:30 p.m., a no-host
dinner will be served in the
temple at 6:30 p.m. and lodge
will convene at 8 p.m. for the
second section, it is stated.

Waldron is general chairman for
the eveniiig. Junior Past Master
Marvin Walker will serve as
master of ceremonies.
Sorority to Hold
Dinner, Initiation
Beta Upsilon, newly organized
silver anniversary chapter of
Beta Sigma Phi sorority, met
Monday at the home of Mrs.
Wayne Wright, 713 Broad street.
Mrs. Wayne Harris was co-
hostess.
This was the first meeting of
the newly organized. The meet
ing was conducted by the club
president. Mrs. Paul Morris,
under the supervision of Mrs.
Roy Stein, chapter advisor.

candlelighted table.

Hear Librarian
Monday Evening
Alpha Rho chapter of Beta
Sigma Phi sorority met Monday
evening at the Medford public
library to hear a talk by Miss
Helen Webster, librarian. In ob
servance of "Know Your Li
brary" month, Miss Webster
took the group on a tour of the
library showing the location of
the departments and explaining
the various services that the pub
lic may receive from them. She
also explained how to make use
of the library itself and the help
fulness of the card catalogue in
finding material for the club
topics.
Miss Webster then told the
group how a book is processed
for library use. She also spoke
briefly on the operation of the
library and its branches.
' The roup then went to the
home of Mrs. James Sullivan
where the cultural program was
given by Mrs. Larry Allen. Her
topic was "The Printed Word
and Your Life," and she read and
discussed various passages from
literature.
At the conclusion of the pro
gram, a business meeting was
held. Mrs. Edward Bunnell and
Mrs. Curt Butterfield were
elected as co-representatives to
the newly formed silver anni
versary chapter.
Refreshments for the evening
were served by Mrs. Donald Lue
and Mrs. Bob G. Norris.
Meeting Planned
For Organization
Of.Hedrick PTA
Final plans have been made
for a meeting at Hedrick Junior
High school for the purpose of
starting a parent-teacher asso
ciation. The organizational meet
ing will be held in the school
library Monday, November 14,
at 8 p.m. according to Mrs.
Wayne Jamison, chairman of the
steering committee.
The group will enroll mem
bers, elect officers and adopt by
laws at this meeting. All mem
bers signing up at the first meet
ing or before the second meeting
of the group will be charter
members of the unit, being or
ganized at the request of Vincent
Bevis. principal of the school.
Children from four districts,
Medford, Lone Pine, Dewey and
Kenwood, attend Hedrick High
school.

To Hold Dinner
Royal Neighbors of America
have completed plans for turkey
dinner, November 17 to which
the public is invited. Serving
will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the
dinner will be held at the Pyth
ian building. A country store
and entertainment are planned
