Dismissed Mrs. Julia Dodge
of Rogue River was dismissed
today from Osteopathic hospital
where she has been since Oct.
8, after she fractured a hip in a
fall at her home. She was taken
to Grants Pass where she will
stay at a rest home operated by
Mrs. Mabel Hogue.
School Burglarized Four dol
lars were stolen recently from
a pencil box in the 'main office
of Phoenix High school. En
trance was gained by breaking
a window. The principal's of
fice was also entered through a
broken window, but nothing was
missing, according to a sheriff's
office report.

starting at 11:15 a.m. Members

Legion Conference - a con
ference of all officers and mem
bers of the American Legion
posts of District 13 will be held
Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the
Central Point Legion hall, ac
cording to Gene Orr, district
commander. The conference will
be conducted by state officers
of the' Legion. Orr urged that
all Legionnaires be present.
Dance Announced Phoetax
Fire department "will sponsor a
Halloween dance Saturday, Oct.
29, at the Community club hall.
Music will be furnished by Cap's
Roadside Rascals and dancing
will be from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
It is 'stated that the dance is not
a masquerade event, but those
who wish to may attend in cos
tume. Tickets will be available
at the door and the department
extends an invitation to all in
terested persons to attend.

Dance Saturday All proceeds
from a square dance planned for
Saturday, Oct. 29, at Hedrick
Junior High school will go to
buy equipment for the new Jack
son county disaster car. The
dance, sponsored by the South
ern Oregon Square Dance Call
ers' association, is set for 8:30
p.m. and it is stated that the best
callers in southern Oregon and
northern California will call for
the event. Doug Fousbury, presi
dent of the callers' group, states
that spectators will be welcome
to attend without charge.

Funeral services for Fred
Wesley Preston, 53, of 1016
Reddy st., who died in a local
hospital Thursday, will be held
st 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Chapel
Mortuary, with the Rev. D. K.
West and the Rev. John E. Reyn
olds, of the First Presbyterian
church, officiating. Interment
will be in Siskiyou Memorial
park.
Casket bearers will be Virgil
Painter, William Sherwood, Al
bert James, Wilson Slater, Law
rence White and Howard Ken
nett. The deceased, son of W. G.
and Mable Preston, was born in
Stevens Point, Wis., on March
10, 1902. He enlisted in the U.
S. Army in 1921, and was dis
charged as a corporal in 1923,
after having served in Washing
ion and the Hawaiian Islands.
He was married in Seattle on
July 17, 1924, to Zona E. Lamb,
who survives. Seven years ago
the family came to Medford,
where Mr. Preston has been em
ployed as a salesman.
He was a member of the First
Presbyterian Church of Med
ford, and the Bellingham Bay
lodge No. 44, A. F. & A. M.
Other survivors include two
daughters, Mrs. Mary Milestone,
of North Carolina, and Barbara
Preston, Medford, a son, Wil
liam G.,. Medford, and four
grandchildren.

Springbrook rd. died today in a
local hospital. Conger-Morris
funeral home is in charge of
funeral arrangements.
Jailed John Wesley Kerns,
31, of 2295 Siskiyou blvd., Ash
land, was placed in Jackson
county jail Oct. 25 for failure
to pay an overload fine. Kerns
was fined $530 on May 7, 1954
and $380 of the fine remained
to be paid. He was released
Wednesday when that amount,
less S4 jail credit, was paid.
Chevrolet Meeting About 40
men from various southern Ore
gon towns were in Medford this
afternoon to attend a district
meeting of Chevrolet salesmen
and dealers. The session was
held at the Jackson hotel and
representatives were here from
Grants Pass,' Roseburg, Lake
view, Klamath Falls, and Ash
land. C. L. Coffyn, Portland,
zone truck manager for Chevro
let company, was main speaker
and Walter DeMartini, Oakland,
Calif., Courtesy Chevrolet com
pany dealer, also is here for
several days and attended the
meeting. Arnold W. Paradis, dis
trict manager, was in charge of
arrangements.

turas, Calif., today for services
and interment there.
He came to Medford from Al
turas where he had lived for
the past 61 years to visit his
daughter, Mrs. R. T. Ritchey,
847 Brookdale rd. He died in a
local hospital Thursday.
Other survivors include two
sons, Norman, Fort Bidwell,
Calif, and John, Tule Lake,
Calif;, two brothers, John and
George, Longbarn, Calif., and
nine grandchildren.

Full military funeral services
for O. L. "Gonzo" Samuels, 55,
who died Friday, were held to
day with Chaplain Samuel Fel
ler of Camp White officiating.
Interment was, in Camp White
cemetery. Conger-Morris funeral
home was in charge of funeral
arrangements.
, He was born in Napa, Calif,
on July 29, 1900, and came to
southern Oregon over 20 years
ago. For the past five years he
was employed as an electrician
at the V.A. domiciliary at Camp
White. In Medford on Aug. 10,
1942, he enlisted in the Army
and was discharged Dec. 1, 1943,
as a PFC unossigned AUS.
City Loader Used
To Pick Up Leaves
The city's Athey loader is
cleaning leaves from city streets,
Verncn Thorpe, public works di
rector, has announced.
Thorpe urged residents to rake
leaves into gutters, but caution
ed citizens not to pile leaves
Piled leaves, he said, cannot be
loaded' with equipment. He also
urged citizens not to put limbs
or rocks in the leaves.

Armstrong said that he lost 95
