At least a hundred million
Americans have now proved, by
dint of daily brushing with
glorified soap, sweetened and
flavored, that a clean tooth de
cays, notwithstanding the slogan
invented by a dentrifice vendor
and parroted by dentists of yes
teryear.
I say "dentists of yesteryear"
parroted the sales slogan that
"a clean tooth never decays,
I'm afraid most dentists still
harbor some such 19th century
notion about preservation of the
teeth. At any rate they still
approve the teaching that from
one to three or four daily brush
ings are necessary to prevent
decay of the teeth. Hence the
silly "oral hygiene" imposed on
American children in school.
Now, listen, cheap skates (I'll
explain this one. presently), I'm
telling you how to save all, the
money you squander on trick
dentifrices and (ugh, repulsive
thought!) tooth brushes if a
character who never brushes
his teeth can tell Yankee Wiseacres-
(I've explained this one
repeatedly) anything. I maintain
that washing the mouth (and
teeth) with plain soap and water,
plain water, boric acid solution,
alkaline antiseptic solution, per
oxide solution or whatever de
tergent you prefer, cleanses the
mouth and teeth as thoroughly
as tooth brushing possibly can.
I'm always ready to put this
to the lest by submitting to an
inspection of my mouth and
teeth by a ' competent dentist
in comparison with the state of
the mouth and teeth of any
number of Americans of my age.
If it were only the sinful
waste of money and time on this
idiotic tooth-brushing rite, I
wouldn't be bothered about It.
If the children didn't spend their
pennies on pretty goo and
fancy brushes they'd probably

Announces Expansion
New York (U.R) Lufthansa
airlines, a German carrier that
was a big-wig in the pre-war
commercial airline field, has an
nounced ambitious expansion
plant;, seven months after it re
sumed - operations with Allied
approval.
The announcement came on
Wednesday from its president,
H. M. Bongers, who is attending
the 11th annual meeting in New
York of the International Air
Transport association.
Lufthansa, he said, will re
sume flights next summer to
Tehran in the Near East and la
ter to a yet undesignated termi
nal in the Far East. By the fall
of 1956, he said, Lufthansa will
again start flying between Ham
burg and Buenos Aires, via Rio
de Janeiro.
