Sprinkler of Lawn Hailed Into Court
'Milwaukee (U.R) Milwau
kee, like many other cities, has
a summer ordinance that says
people on the even numbered
side of the street may, sprinkle
their lawns one day, and those
on the opposite the next day.
Lorenz O. Stammberger, did
not believe his fewn was getting
enough water, since, it has not
rained for eight days. So his 17-year-ol3
son connected the sprin
kler hose to the family's 234-ton
air conditioning unit. Instead of
sending the used cooling water
down a basement drain, it went
out on the lawn. The flow was
enough to wet a six-foot area
around the sprinkler.
Three policemen stopped and
told Stammberger he was viola
ting a city ordinance. A lieuten
ant gave him a ticket.
