third quarter.
Jack Greb ran the conversion
after Tresham's long run. Then
in Use second period Greb romp
ed land 19 yards for touch
downs and John Bunker and
Tresham converted.
Greb's first TD came on the
seventh play of a 65-yard march
and a bit later the Eagles took
over on the Talent 40-yard line
when a Bulldog fourth down
gamfaie failed. A pass, Gale

Three more plays got to the 19,
setting up the TD dash.
Walked Tallies
Talent lost the ball on anoth
er gamble on its 24 in the third
quarter. Jim Walker raced 36
yards for the Talent counter af
ter the Bulldogs had taken the
ball on 'their own 47. Walker also
bucked for the bonus.
Eagle Point's sophomore club
played a good part of the last
stanza. They got the ball on the
Bulldog 31 after a short Talent
punt and ground to the goal
in nine plays. Jim Stuart went
across from the one and Jim
Duncan converted.
The Eagles ran uj 12 first
downs toSalent's six. Talent got
four of its first downs on one
drive in the first quarter which
moved the ball from their own
20 to the Eagle 32.

Either Sex Hunt
Portland (U.R) The Oregon
State Qame Commission today
lifted its hunting ban in Des
chutes National Forest and other
Central Oregon lands.
Hunters with unused deer
tags will be permitted to take
a deer of either sex through
Oct. 21. Removal of the closure
opened up all areas east of the
Cascade summit for the either
sex season, with the exception
o.' Sherman county which will
remain closed.
Buck deer hunting season will
continue through Oct. 21 in
Jackson, Josephine, Douglas,
Coos, and Curry counties and
part of Klamath county.

Conference Grid Diadems
Phoenix and St. Mary's high
schools will strive to complete
unbeaten conference slates this
week end in the program of
five prep football games in
which Jackson county schools
will participate.
St. Mary's, Medford parochial
academy, is host to Jacksonville
in the lone Saturday night en
gagement of the five. Friday
games are Eagle Point at Phoen
ix, Eureka, Calif., at Medford,
Ashland versus Crater at Cent
ral Point and Rogue River at
Prospect.
Phoenix has. trimmed both
Crater and Illinois Valley in
the Rogue League and would
wrap up undisputed possession
of the toga with a win over Eagle
Point. The Pirates then would
have only Glendale to overcome
in their quest for District 6 A-2
southern sector laurels.
Could Be 2 In Row
The Crusaders of St. Mary's
holds triumphs over Rogue
River, Talent and Prospect and
meet their fourth and last Jack
son County B League opponent.
A win over Jacksonville would
give the Medford team its sec
ond straight conference champ
ionship. It will be homecoming
for St. Mary's defending district
victor.
B league members Prospect
and Rogue River have the only
other conference action.
Medford will attempt to halt
its' losing string to Eureka at
two straight 'and Crater, which
has come close but never quite
made it, will still be after its
first win over Ashland. Medford
lost 12 to 7. to Eureka in gooey

high school, although idle last
week, continued to dominate the
Journal Coaches' poll as the
state's number one high school
football team today. The Golden
Pirates picked up all eight first
place votss.
Gresham again was the unan
imous choice for second place,
but Pendleton was replaced as
the third-running team by Jef
ferson of Portland. Pendleton
was fourth and Corvallis fifth.
Eugene, number 8, was the
only team new this week to the
top 17. The Axemen replaced
Cottage Grove, which earlier
handed Eugene a defeat.

Fans Favor
Overtime
Portland (U.R)' By a four
to one margin, fans have indi
cated they prefer the overtime
playoff experiment used in the
professional football game here
last August by the Los Angeles
Rams and New York Giants,
Promoter Harry Glickman said
today.
The experiment called for a
"sudden death" overtime in
event the game ended in a tie.
As it turned out, the Rams and
Giants were tied at 17-all and
the Rams won 23-17 in the over
time. -
Glickman said, however, that
most fans objected to the meth
od of giving a team the ball
which was used here bx flip
ping a coin. Most fans, he said,
either favored giving each team
an equal amount of time or an
equal number of downs while
others suggested that the team
in possession of the ball at the
final gun either retain posses
sion or be given option of re
ceiving the ensuing kickoff.
Offers Submitted
For Old Golf Club
Portland (U.R) Owners of the
old Inverness Golf Club site in
northeast Portland yesterday
submitted two offers to Murray
Kemp, president of the Multno
mah Kenett club, which is con
sidering the site for a new dog
racing track.
G. A. Sterns, partner in the
firm which owns the land, said
the entire 237-acre site had been
offered for $355,000, or the first
50 acres north of Northeast
Sandy boulevard had been of
fered for $250,000.
Negotiations on the sale were
stalled earlier by confusion
about the purchase price.

Manager Joe Ziegler said today
the Portland Beavers have pur
chased Clarence Moore, 23-year-old
shortstop from Pueblo of
the Western League.
Moore led the loop with 12
triples during the past season
and was second in stolen bases

Classic Ski Tourney
To Be Revived in 1956
Bellingham, Wash. (U.R) The
Far West Kandahar, a classic
ski tournament which has not
been held since 1947, will be
revived at Mount Hood in 1956.
The class A and B men's and
women's giant slalom will be
held March 31, 1956 at the Ore
gon winter pports center.
The announcement was made
at the 25th annual convention
of the Pacific Northwestern Ski
association here Sunday..

Maryland and Oklahoma, which
weathered the wave of weekend
upsets, clung to the top three

ratings today, but a shakeup of
the remaining places in the top
10 vaulted Navy into the No. 4
spot.
Michigan State, Auburn and
Southern California all ad
vanced to the select group as the
ratings underwent their biggest
scrambling of the season thus
far. Notre Dame, one of the fbur
major powers upset, dropped
six places to 10th.
The 35 leading coaches who
comprise the United Press rat
ing board divided all their first
place votes among the four top
teams. Michigan received 18
two less than last week; Mary
land had eight, Oklahoma six
and Navy three. .
Point Distribution Close
However, the point distribu
tion for the three top teams was
comparatively close, Michigan
attracting 315 points, Maryland
289 and the Sooners 286.
Southern California, which de
feated Wisconsin 33-21 - Friday
night, jumped 10 notches to
ninth place, regaining a place
in the select group after drop
ping out for Georgia Tech,
vaulted nine places to the No. 8
ranking, while Michigan State,
conqueror of Notre Dame,
moved up five places to No. 6.
Navy advanced from ninth to
fourth place; UCLA moved up
two places to fifth, and Duke
three rankings to seventh.
Here is how the teams lined
up behind the first three: Navy,
218 points; UCLA, 170; Michi
gan State 160; Duke, 139; Au
burn, ' 71; Southern California,
68, and Notre Dame 50.

an operating lo"ss of $57,539 dur
ing the first 11- months of the
club's fiscal year, stockholders
were told last night at a meet

The loss was blamed partly
on ' inclement weather which
washed out -15 home games, in
cluding a possible $20,000 opening-day
gate. Operating expenses
also were high. Joe Ziegler, gen
eral manager, said the front of
fice still had "a long way to go"
before assembling a top-flight
