Jacksonville At the first Par
ent-Teacher association . meeting
of the season last Wednesday
evening a reception was held
for all the teaching staff and
for Mrs. Daisy Lewis, who re
tired last spring after teaching
in Jacksonville schools for over
3C years.
Mrs. Lewis began teaching in
the grade school in 1917 and con
tinued there through 1918 then
moving to California where she
taught from 1919 through 1925.

Mrs. Una B. Inch, assistant
superintendent of county schools,
presented Mrs. Lewis a scrap
book which had been compiled
by Mrs. Russell Mclntyre, Mrs.
E. O. Graham and Mrs. Wood
row McCormack. The book of
white leather and gold lettering
contains a collection of photo
graphs, messages, amusing inci
dents and other mementos from
her former students.
The honore dguest also was
presented a corsake of white
carnations.
. Mrs. Lewis plans to leave this
week for Hawaii, accompanied
by a friend from California.
They will make the trip by plane
and expect to be on the islands
for about a week.
Refreshments were served at
thereception by the executive
committee and entertainment in
cluded a comedy skit, presented
by the program committee.

Rapp-Sullivan Ceremony Held
In Med ford Nazarene Church
Miss Shirlee Phyllis Sullivan
became the bride of Fred Rapp
in a ceremony held October 7 at
First Church of the Nazarene,
Medford. The Rev. P. J. Bartram,
Spokane, a former pastor of the
Medford church, officiated for
the double-ring evening rites.
Almost 300 guests attended.
The bride is a daughter of
Mrs. Fannie Sullivan, 713 Oak
street, and the bridegroom's par
ents are Mr. and Mrs. A. A.
Reed, Kuna, Ida.
Given in marriage by her
brother, John F. Sullivan, the
bride wore a gown of white
nylon tulle over satin fashioned
with lace yoke and panel. Her
finger-tip length veil was held
by a tiara and she carried steph
anotis centered with three baby
orchids. The petticoat she wore
bad first been worn by a bride
55 years ago.
Attending the bride were Miss
Lois Bartram, Spokane, maid-of-honor;
Miss Diane James, Sams
Valley, Miss Joan DeZell, New
berg, Ore., and Miss Jan Turner,
Dalton, Wise, bridesmaids. All
four attendedants attended Whit
worth college and graduated
from nurse's training with the
bride.
Miss Bartram wore a gown of
bronze colored crystalline fash
ioned with full circle skirt, bal
erina length. Miss James wore
a gold colored crystalline frock,
Miss DeZell, green and Miss Tur
ner, yellow -crystalline. Their
bouquets were bronze and
golden chrysanthemums.
- Miss Ginger Brady and Miss
Marilyn Rapp lighted the can
dles. Little Kathy Pfost was
flower girl and Ricky Cole car
ried the rings.
Robert Rapp, Seattle, was best
man for his brother, and grooms
men were Wayne Pfost, Boise,
Ida., brother-in-law of the bride
groom, G. B. Brady, Boise, and
Sam Twibell, Kilgore, Tex.
Homer Sullivan, brother of the
bride, Frank Wiley, Nampa, Ida.,
and Michael Tenny, Stockton,
Calif, the bridegroom's nephew,
seated the guests.
Miss Ruth Sullivan organist
and Miss Carolemay Rapp was
soloist.
An arch of chrysanthemums
and ivy and a small white picket
fence provided a background for
the wedding party and other
decorations were baskets of
bronze colored chrysanthemums
and woodwardia ferns arranged
with candelabra holding tapers.
More than 200 guests attended
the reception which followed the
ceremony. Mrs. Marvin Smith
took charge of the guest book
and cutting . the cake was Miss
Marlene Addington, assisted by
Mrs. Fred Warner. Punch was
poured by Mrs. Wayne Pfost,
assisted by Mrs. Homer Sullivan.
Others assisting at the reception
were Mrs. Roy House, Mrs. Carl
Foster, Mrs. Al - Larson, Mrs.
Richard Foster, Miss Barbara
Tenny, Miss Karen Warner, Miss

Mr. and Mrs. Rapp traveled
up the Oregon and Washington
coasts to Seattle for their wed
ding trip, and continued to

grade at Jacksonville schools and
is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Floyd White, former Medford
residents now of Tujunga, Calif.
They came north for the wed
ding. The bridegroom is a junior
student at Southern Oregon col
lege. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Downing, O'Brien, Ore.,
who also came here for the wed
ding, i
Mr. White gave his daughter in
marriage. She wore a light blue
suit with red accessories and
her bouquet was of red and white
carnations.
Miss Wilma Downing, O'Brien,
sister of the bridegroom, was
honor attendant. She wore a tur
quoise blue dress with black ac
cessories and her bouquet was of
red carnations.
Fredrick L. Griffith was best
men.
The wedding flowers were ar
ranged in Santa Monica, Calif.,
and were sent to Medford by
plane by the brides' uncle, who
could not be here for the occa
sion. Out-of-town guests included
two great-aunts of the bride, Mrs.
E. G .Bottomley and Miss Anne
Gammon, both of Los Angeles.
The bride's parents had lived
here for seven years until leav
ing for the south in 1952. They
entertained at a reception for
the newly wedded couple attend
ed by about 25 guests.
Mr. Downing and his bride
are living at Cargill court, Apart
ment B.
The bride was graduated in
1951 from Medford Senior High
school and last spring was grad
uated from Southern Oregon col
lege. The bridegroom was graduated
in 1953 from Illinois Valley high
school.

Mrs. Powers special interest
and state-project is the restora
tion of Newell house at the en
trance to Champoeg State park.
This house was the only dwell
ing to survive the flood of 1861
and was the home of Dr. Robert
Newell. The title : of "doctor"
was only an honorary one given
him for his simple medical serv
ices to the settlers..
The Masonic lodge of Oregon
is to restore one' "room as the
place was used by this order
