Air Force Plane Smacks Mountain
Riverside, Calif. (U.R)
Air Force authorities today in
vestigated the hillside crash of a
B47 jet bomber in which four
airmen were killed.
The crash occurred shortly af
ter the medium bomber took off
on an evaluation mission from
its home field, March Air Force
Base, about 10 miles from here.
The plane was flying on instru
ments in a heavy fog but Air
Force spokesmen said the fog
was not responsible for the crash
last night.
Identification of the victims
was withheld pending notifica
tion of next of kin. '
Impact of the bomber and the
accompanying explosion shook
this city, only a few miles from
the crash scene.
The plane, which normally
carries a three-man Crew, smash
ed into the hillside traveling at
about 500 miles per hour, March
AFB spokesmen said. It was part
of the base's 320th Bombardment
squadron.

Effect of Taxes On Development of, Industry Studied
Salem (U.R) The Interim Tax
Study Committee wants to know
what adverse effects, if any, state
and local taxes have on the de
velopment of new industries in
Oregon.
Sen. Rudie Wilhelm Jr. of
Portland, committee chairman,
said Chambers of Commerce,
business groups and others in
terested in taxation are being
asked to supply the committee
with names of companies and in
dividuals who built plants or ex
panded old ones in their areas
or constructed their factories
elsewhere after studying an Ore
gon building site.
Sen. Wilhelm said the request
for names is the first step in
carrying out the committee's as
signment of determining which,
if any, of the state and local
taxes now in force have an ad
verse effect on the location and
development of industry and

Portland Applications for
the position of internal revenue
agent are now being accepted by
the Internal Revenue Service,
U.S. Civil Service Board of Ex
aminers, 870 Market st., San
Francisco, according to Ralph
C. Granquist, district director of
Internal Revenue Service.
The positions are concerned
with the audit of individual,
partnership and corporation tax
returns to determine Federal tax
liability. Purpose of the exami
nations, to be held Nov. 19,
1955 and Feb. 4, 1956, is to
establish adequate registers of
well-qualified persons to fill
vacancies as they occur in the
present staff.
Applicants will receive con
sideration for vacancies through
out the eight states of the region
if they do not express an un
willingness for such consideration.
