ButteQ Falls PTA
Plans Meeting;
Chairmen Named
Butte Falls Butte Falls Par
ent-Teacher association will bold
its first regalar meeting of the
year Monday, October 10, at
7:30 p.m. in the high school audi
torium. Reading as taught in the
first and second grades will be
demonstrated for the program,
and Miss Mary Schubert and
Mrs. Rodger Harris will present
some of their pupils in typical
reading lessons to show methods
common in schools today.
Mothers of children in the
first grade will serve refresh
men.
Mrs. Bruce McDonald, who is
music instructor in the Butte
Falls schools will lead group
singing.
Because the high school has
set October 28 as the date for a
Cichool carnival, the PTA will
not plan a Halloween party but
is instead- urging a large attend
ance at the carnival.

school faculty is advisor for the
. carnival, and members of the
student body who are organizing
the event are Euffene Henshaw.

New committee chairmen for
Butte Falls JTA have been or
ganizing their activities towards
making the coming year a suc
cessful one.

ity; Mrs. Keith Scott, member
ship; Mrs. Floyd Mattern, health
and safety; Mrs. Claude Moore,
publicity; Mrs. Harry Dalton,
legislation; Mrs. Charles Capel

Harris, magazine; Mrs. Tincye

speak for a meeting of Jackson
County Republican Women Mon
day October 10, at the Jackson
hotel at noon. Since Mr. Jenkins
will discuss power and farm
problems as they affect southern
Oregon, both men and women
are invited to attend the lunch

The monthly meeting of chair
men of volunteer services, Jack
son, county chapter, American
Red Cross, was held at the home
of Mrs. Frank Fairweather, 3013

Activity reports for the month
of September were given by Mrs.

Dads' Club Names
Winner of Award
. Corvallis Jack Leo Terzen
bach of Medford has been award
ed a partial tuition scholarship
at Oregon State college for 1955-
56 by the OSC Dads club.
Young Terzenbach, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Max Leo Terzenbach,
1023Vi Riverside avenue, is
majoring in chemistry in the
school of science.
The OSC Dads club awarded
six full-tuition scholarships this
year to returning students and
36 partial tuition study grants
to new freshmen. The awards
are designed to "encourage out
standing high school students to
continue their education." Dan
W. Poling, dean of men at the
college, annouced the names of
the ; winners, who represent
every section of the state. .
MMA TO MEET
The Medford. Ministerial asso
ciation will meet Tuesday, Octo
ber 11, at 10 in the Fireplace
room of the First . Presbyterian
church to discuss general busi
ness, according to Dr. J.Thomas
Dixon, secretary of the associa
tion.
Council of Blind
To Meet Sunday
Jackson County chapter, Asso
ciated Council of the Blind will
meet Sunday, October 9 at 2
p.m. in the Guild hall of St.
Mark's church for the October
session. Clyde Richardson of the
Oregon Commission for the Blind
will attend.
Following the business meet
ing, there will be a social hour
and light refreshments will be
served. Everyone sincerely in
terested in the work and welfare
of the blind is cordially invited
to attend. '
Officers of the club stress that
visually handicapped people do
not want to be relegated to a
useless life and that the council
was organized to help them solve
their problems.

Phoenix The executive board
of Women's association, Phoenix
Presbyterian church, will; meet
Tuesday, October 11, at the home
of the president, Mrs. RoScoe
Owens. Mrs. Owens asks all. of

tend. A group of women from the
association attended the one-day
Presbyterian meeting at Glen
dale Wednesday. In the group
were Mrs. Owens, Mrs. C. E.
Stothers, Mrs. A. W. Caldwell,
Mrs. Al Morin and Mrs J. O. N.
Poling.
Other organizations of the
church are resuming the fall
schedule of meetings. The youth
group held the first meeting last
Sunday evening, and plans to
meet each Sunday night for de
votions, singing and games. All
youg people of the community
not affiliated with another
church are invited to attend.
,. The Men's club of the church
which did not meet during the
summer months has set the first
fall session for Monday, Octobei
17. A special congregation meet
ing will be held after the morn
ing service Sunday, October 16,
to consider a budget for the com
ing year.
A teacher training class held
during the past month concluded
Monday night. A business ses
sion for teachers and officers of
the Sunday school followed.

chairman for the Knights con
vention, states that all arrange
ments for the sessions have been
completed. On the program for
Sunday are - sightseeing . trips
around the valley, a tea at the
Pythian hall from 2 to 5 p.m.
and various dinners. Past grand
chancellors will hold a dinner
at the Jackson hotel at 7 p.m.
and grand representatives - will
also hold a dinner at the same
hotel.
Pythian Sisters have also
planned two dinners Sunday
night, one for past grand' chiefs
and the other for past chiefs
and ' representatives, and both
will be at the Medford hotel at
7 p.m.
Business sessions, ceremonials
and social functions will con
tinue through Monday and Tues
