proposed $8,000,000 exposition
recreation center appeared pos
sible today after three city com
missioners yesterday expressed
opposition to Delta Park.
The Delta Park, 'or Vanport
site, was recommended Wednes
day by a 3-2 vote of exposition
commission members.
However, Commissioners Wil-liam-A.
Bowes, Stanley. W. Earl
and Nathan A. Boody said they
would definitely . oppose : the
transfer of Delta Park from the
city park bureau to the exposition-recreation
commission.
City Attorney Alexander G.
Brown said the city council had
the authority to veto the com
mission's choice of a site.
. Commissioner Earl said re
ports on the site by engineers
and research institutes showed
the Delta Park site "would be a
tragic mistake and not in the in
terests of the general welfare.

Three Men Change
Pleas to Guilty
Three men changed pleas of
innocent to guilty and received
fines in district court Tuesday,
on charges of possession of un
tagged deer meat and being
drunk on a public highway.'
A fourth man, Verlin Roger
Whittaker, 26, of 1063 Court st,
pleaded guilty to charges of
driving while under the influ
ence of intoxicating liquor, and
possession of untagged deer
meat
Whittaker was fined $225, had
his driver's license suspended for
90 days and received a sus
pended . sentence of 30 days in
jail for driving while under the
influence of intoxicating liquor.
He was fined $40 for possession
of untagged deer meat.
Roland Jesse Allen and Eu
gene Malcolm Taylor, both of
the Court st. address, and
Woodrow Wilson Nelson, Dairy,
Ore., were fined $15 each for be
ing drunk on a public highway.
On the charge of illegal posses
sion of ' deer meat they were
each fined $40. Nelson and Tay
lor's fines were suspended on
the latter charge.

waiting in a hospital 10 hours
to have a swallowed coin re
moved, 22-month-old Arthur No
vinski finally was ready for an
operation. Just as the physician
leaned . over, the youngster
coughed, dislodging the coin.
