,I'm afraid there are not that
many doctors left real doctors,
I mean. 0 n
Real doctors practice general
medicine. When they think it
may do you any good they send
you to .specialist whose capa
bility they respect, or they call
such a physician, or any physi
cian you may prefer, into con
sultation. That way you get far,
far better treatment than you
would 'get if you spurned the
counsel and advice of your fam
ily physician and ran off to
someone who is most proficient
at getting his name in the paper.
If that's the criterion, I should
have a whale of a practice by
now, for who but some other
quack, gets his name in the
paper oftener than I do? But I'm
different. You can't consult me
about your ailment, not even if
you shove a C-note at me before
I lay a hand on you. For I ex
ploit my publicity only to extend
the range of my teaching. I teach
personal health. I still have that
dream, you know that some
recognized education institution
will make me the first person to
receive the degree P. H. D.
which means Doctor (teacher) of
Personal Health a nd , if any
copy reader changer it to Ph. D.,
I'll take drastic action.
Tell me, Simon, have you ever
consulted a "clinic"? I don't
mean a genuine or . bona fide
clinic, as the term is defined in
Webster, I hope only a negligible
number of readers infer from
my teachings that I disapprove
of real clinics.
Please tell me, anybody, under
what conceivable circumstance
a basal metabolism reading is as
helpful in diagnosis or treatment
as the judgment of a competent
physician? And in case any
medical mentor wishes to in
form me, privately or publicly,
I hope he or she will enlighten
me about the value of the elec
trocardiogram if it is of any
value to the patient. I'm abso
lutely sincere about this. In my
one-track mind all an electro
cardiogram can do for any vic
tim is to give him or her some
thing to worry about.

Store-wide sales starting to
morrow will open the 30th an
niversary of Adrienne's, one of
Medf ord s oldest ready to wear
shops for women, at 214 East
Main st.
Adriennes was organized 30
years ago at 103 North Central
ave. by Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Stew
ard as a specialty - shop. The
store moved to 21 North Central
ave. the next year following a
fire.
The store was greatly en
larged with new lines added to
the dress and suit department
following the fire. Also estab
lished at the time were hat and
shoe departments.
Expansion of the shops includ
ed stores at Grants Pass, Eureka,
Yreka and Klamath Falls in ad
dition to enlarging the rledford
store.
In September, 1943, Adri
ennes moved to the present lo
cation at 214 East Main st. Pres
ently, the store here has a staff
of 14 employees.
