The letter was written by the
60-year-oldo Peron aboard the
storm-tossed Paraguayan gun
boat where he has waited for
11 days to go into voluntary ex
ile. It was addressed to 16-year-old
Nelida (Nelly) Rivas, the
daughter of a nightwatchman

pressed the letter into the hands
of a Paraguayan gunboat sailor
but the sailor delivered it to the
Paraguayan Embassy instead of
the dark-haired beauty. It was
turned over to the new provis
ional government.
"You are all that I have left
now that the workers have de
serted me," officials quoted the
letter.
Arrested foi Questioning
Nelly was picked up by police
for questioning. They wanted to
know how she had acquired
thousands of dollars worth of
jewels, Paris gowns, .rare per
fumes and sparkling trinkets of
the sort Peron once lavished on
his late wife, Eva.
Though Nelly had a fortune,
it was a pittance compared with
the possessions Peron left behind
in his flight $20,000,000 in
cash, hoards of gold and jewels
in his luxury-lined secret apart
ments, and a newspaper and
radio empire that spread through
a holding company across. Latin
America into the United States
and Canada.
Details of Peron's vast pub
lishing empire came to light
when authorities discovered a
secret bomb-proof and gas-proof
chamber with walls 14 inches

Washington (U.R) A Civil
Aeronautics Board examiner has
added Pendleton, Ore., to a list
of 25 sites proposed by the CAB
as permanent points of the
West Coast Airlines, Inc., sys
tem. The proposal was made under
new legislation requiring the
CAB to grant local service air
lines permanent authorization to
serve at least 50 per cent of the
points on their routes if they so
request.
The CAB tentatively proposed
that West Coast be granted per
manent authorization for all
points on its route an Washing
ton, Oregon and Idaho, except
Pendleton, Baker and La
Grande, Ore.; Chehalis-Centralia
and Ellensburg, Wash.; Burley
Rupert and McCall, Ida., and
Ontario, Ore.-Payette, Ida.

recommended that Pendleton be
added to the list for permanent
authorization.

A blight which attacks Arbor
vitae plants causes them to lose
their vigor and makes them un
sightly in the yard. This disease
is particularly bad on Berck
mann's Arborvitae which is a
pot-bellied shrub commonly
planted in the corners of lawns
and near entrances.
' The disease attacks the Ar
borvitae plants in the fall dur
ing the early rainy periods. It
continues to work during the
wintertime, then , next spring
dead areas appear on the shrub.
These dead areas are frequently
in the tops and small areas on
the outside of the plant.
This is rather readily con
trasted ' with ' drought injury
which occurs more generally on
the inner parts of the plant:
Fortunately the disease is very
easy to control. A thorough
spraying of' a neutral copper
using three pounds per 100 gal
lons or a heaping tablespoon in
one gallon will give thorough
control.
The two essentials in control
are thoroughness and timeliness.
It must be applied before the
rainy season sets1 in. In order
to be sure, the spray should be
applied sometime in the near
future. A power sprayer would
be best but if the shrubs are
small, good control can be ob
tained with a compressed air or
trombone sprayer. Spraying with
a small fly sprayer type would
be useless. .
Peach blighjt is a disease
which is severe on peaches and
apricots especially isolated trees
in backyards. This - disease
causes a dying of the twigs and
a spotting of the fruit. This same ;
copper spray thoroughly applied ;
at this time will give good con- i
trol of peach blight. The disease !
is not general in commercial !
orchards due to better spraying :
procedures but if it has been I
present, they likewise should be
sprayed at this time.
