The Iodin Ration
is not Medication ,
It is discouraging to see a con
frere called a quack, (writes a
physician) and discourtesy will
convince nobody, but some of us
family doctors feel that, al
though you have done a credit
able job of popularizing medical
concepts, you lay yourself open
to attacks like the one published
when you recommend medica
tion such as "The Iodin Ration"
for lay readers.
We appreciate your desire
to help people, but with harm
less and almost inert medication
such as "The Iodin Ration," the
individual patient may think
that if a little is good more is
better and take enough to get
into trouble.
Self medication of any kind,
even a placebo, is not only dan
gerous but may lead to a loosen
ing of the doctor-patient rela
tionship, which I am sure you do
not intend to sever.
(Signed , M. D.)
If the iodin ration which I
recommend for every man, wom
an and child is "inert" or a
"placebo" it can hardly be dan
gerous. The physician states in his
letter (not quoted) his opinion of
the daily requirement of iodine,
which, he says, the ordinary diet
usually provides.
That is an arbitrary assump

fell in love and decided to
marry. I kno wmv former hov
friend was annoyed, especially
as he has always felt, so his
mother tells me, that the older
brother gets more than he does.
Wow I am faced with a rather
difficult problem. The younger
brother seems to he trvinu in
turn the whole family against
me by telline them thinss I said
or did when I was a school eirl.
I am 21 ' vears old now and
worked after I finished school
until I was. married. I know I
did and said some foolish things,
as all school girls do, but I am
afraid he is exaggerating these
and making me seem like a
worthless person in the eyes of
my m-iaws. How can I stop him
from talking against me?"
Mrs. D.L.F.
(A) You can ouickly nut an
end to your brother-in-law's
talking against you by two meth
ods. First, be especially nice to
him and treat him as your broth
er instead of vour brothfr-in-
law. He is an old friend and you
should not be afraid of arousing
your husband's jealousy by let
ting him know how fond you
are of your brother-in-law.
This is important, because the
boy is showing his resentment
by trying to turn his family
against you. If you and he are
on friendlier terms, there is less
likelihood that he will want to
hurt you in any way. Break
down his resentment with kind
ness. The second thing you can do is
to create a good impression in
the minds of your . in-laws by
your behavior. Be mature in
your actions, kind, thoughtful,
and courteous to every member
of the family. Should any refer
ence be made to your former be
havior, laugh it off and say,' "I
guess I was a silly school girl
when I was young." The more
mature you are now the less
likely your in-laws will be to
think about your past behavior.

I have cited some of these "warn

say no one can do so, for the
simple reason that there is no
scientific evidence to indicte, for
