Former Democratic Iowa Gov. Nelson Kraschel commenting

did it clean . . . you know we've got a pretty good club, too.'
Republican National Chairman Leonard Hall, speaking at the

How long have the men of
medicine been trying to con
quer hay fever? What follows
is a letter written by Sidney
Smith to his son-in-law 120
years ago: "I am suffering from
my old complaint, the hay fever
(as it is called). My fear is per
ishing by deliquescence I melt
away in nasal and lachrymal
nrofluvia. Mv remedies are
warm pediluvium, cathartics,
Hpical application of a watery
solution of opium to eyes, ears
and interior of the nostrils.- The
membrane is so irritable that
light, dust, contradiction, an
absurd remark, the sight of a
dissenter anything sets me a
aneezing. Turn your mind to
this little curse. If consumption
is too powerful for physicians
at least they should not suffer
themselves to be outwitted by
' auch little upstart disorders as
the hay fever."
Sidelights
Among the things every young
business man, writer, editor and
film producer should know and
keep in mind is that there are

Passing By
Jessica Daiibe. One of the
world's outstanding authorities
on the subject of feminine hat
style. Jessica is wearing a small
hat but not flat on her head. It
is planted, or should I say tilt
ed? Anyway, this seems to indi
cate that the criticism of our
Horses and Women experts as
to females wearing small hats
flat on the head indicates a lack
of style sense. To say nothing
about it making even a beauti
ful, intelligent woman appear
as if she is 'suffering from' a
slight case, of arrested develop
ment.
Please Note
Am asked if roulette is legal
in Puerto Rico. It is. So is
faro, dice and all the games
played at Las Vegas, Nev. Pu
erto Rico has a school for croup
iers, sponsored by the govern
ment. Most of the casino type
gambling takes place at the Car-
lbe-Hilton Hotel. Twenty per
cent of the profits of that- hos
telry are said to come from the
casino. Incidentally, the Puerto
Rican Government, which owns
the hotel, gets two-thirds of the
profits, the Hilton organization,
as the operator, gets one-third.
Health Expert
John Wesley, founder of the
Methodist Church, was an ex
pert on health. He wrote a re
markable book on that subject
titled "An Easy and Natural
Method of Curing Most Dis
eases. A recommendation for
this book is the fact that Wesley
lived to be 88 years old in the
early 18th century when the life
expectancy was around 35.
Complaint
A subscriber claims some of
the queries of this department
described as for young old tim
ers go too far back. That many
are old old timer questions. All
right, we will give this subscrib
er another chance to get a young
old timer rating. Let him say
quick as half a flash: 1 Who
was Joe Savoldi? 2 In what
film did Al Jolson sing "Sonny
Boy?"- 3 When Citation won
the Kentucky Derby, what horse
was second? . ,
Lawyers
Most lawyers are very par
ticular as to preparation of their
food. Many are experts on the
subject of gastronomy. Brillat
Savarin was a lawyer. Have
your daughter keep this in mind
if she is thinking of marrying
a lawyer. She better take an ex
tensive course in the culinary
art.
Three Wheeler
Have you seen a three-wheeled
automobile in action lately?
Neither have I. A very rare type
of vehicle in this country. In
Great Britain this type of au
tomobile is very popular. Sells
for the equivalent of $840, seats
four and trevels 70 miles on a
gallon of gasoline.
