Tribe Aims To Settle
Score With Senators
By MILTON RICHMAN
United Presi Sporli Writer
The Cleveland Indians aim to
ettle a couple of scores with
the sad sack Senators tonight,
the first one having to do with
something personal and the sec
ond one with something like
$10,000 per man.
On the personal side, the In
dians are fed up with the in
creasing needling they have
been subjected to from the seventh-place
Senators, who have
beaten them 12 out of 19 games
this year.
Then there's the always vital
matter of World Series money.
The Indians, who lead the Amer
ican League by Vz games, are
convinced . they can -eliminate
the last major obstacle in their
road to the pennant by captur
ing at least two games of the
three. game series which opens
with a twi-night doubleheader
at Griffith Stadium tonight.

pressure ' tested right-handers,
Bob Lemon and Mike Garcia, to
pitch against Washington in to
night's twin-bill.
Chuck Dressen, the fiery1 lit
tle Senator skipper who vows
he'll treat the next three games
as if they were World Series
contests, indicated his pitching
choices may be southpaw Mickey
McDermott in the opener and
right-hander Bob Porterfield or

Nab First Three
In Region Meet
The Washington Cheney Studs,
who were not too impressive
when they played the Medford
Studs here this summer, are do
ing all right so far in the Ameri
can Baseball Congress northwest
regional tourney at Watertown,
S.D. In three games they ve scor
ed 47 runs while ; goose-egging
the opposition. They've collect
ed 45 hits to seven by their foes.
In weir opener the Washing
ton club beat-St. Cloud; ;Minn.
24 to 0 as Farrar hurled a non
hitter. Next time out. Cheney
licked Sumner, la., 17 to 0 as
Monte Geiger threw a two-hitter.
Third win was 6 to 0 over Arch
er Blower and Pipe of Portland.
George Kritsonis tossed a five-
hitter.
The Studs are aiming for a
trip to the national tourney at
Battle Creek, Mich.
left-hander Chuck Stobbs in the
nightcap. .
The Yqckees, a game and a
half in theall important "lost
column" have throubles of their
own. But their troubles could
suddenly dissolve if they were
to beat the Tigers today while
the Indians lose their double
dip to the pesky Senators. Such
a series of events would result
in a tie between Cleveland and
New York for first place.
Yanks To Use Turley
Casey Stengel is sending his
right handed fast-baller Bob Tur
ley to the mound against Detroit
today while Bucky Harris of the
Tigers has given the nod to Bob
Miller, a 20-year-old bonus hurl
er who has just returned to
Detroit after compiling - an 8-2
record with Augusta of the Sally
League. '
.The third-place White Sox,
who are ZVz games back, are at
Baltimore for a twi-night dou
bleheader, while the Red Sox,
who insist they still have a
chance even though they are six
games behind, meet the Kansas
City Athletics in a twi-nighter.
In the only game scheduled
Monday night, the last-place Pi
rates defeated the seventh place
Cardinals, 9-3, behind the six
hit pitching of southpaw Lino
Donoso. Dale Long and Frank
Thomas each homered for the
Pirates while Stan Musial clout
ed his 29th and 30th homers for
the Cards.
