or other acid fruits or drink their
juices, because, her doctor told
her, fruit acids are not good for
her arthritis. Now I have lame
joints, but our doctor tells me to
eat all the fruit or drink all the
fruit juice I like, that it is good
for what ails me. Please tell us
about this in your good column.

Your doctor is right, Ma'am,
and your relative in the big city
ought to have a guardian, for ap
parently she is being buncoed by
the charlatan who tells the poor
soul that "acid" fruits are not
good for whatever ails her.
As long as gypsters are "per
mitted to separate suckers from
their money, in this wonderful
free -country of ours people
whose education was neglected
will continue to imagine lemons,
tomatoes and other "acid" fruits
and their juices are not healthful,
especially for certain invalids
and certain valetudinarians.
Let me say without qualifica
tion that no matter ' what or
whether anything ails you it is
good for you to eat all the "acid"
fruit or drink all the fruit juice
you like, and I doubt that any
reputable physician will venture
to contradict this statement over
his or her signature. Some near
doctors or queer-doctors and
eminent but elusive "authori
ties" far, far away may deceive
their customers about it, but
they don't count.
Physiologically, acid fruits
lemons, limes, grapefruit, or
anges, cranberries, gooseberries,
whortleberries, pineapples,
plums, prunes, strawberries,
cherries, peaches, apricots, cur
rants, huckleberries, blueberries,
and if they are different, o.k.

matoes and apples, pears, and
grapes and eke the luscious pie
plant that grew a reasonable dis

Warm Springs Foundation, now
engaged in a $400,000 expansion
program, aided more than 1,000
polio-stricken patients from 40
states and 15 foreign countries
during the past fiscal year, Basil
O'Connor, president of the Warm
Springs Foundation, revealed to
day in releasing the organiza
tion's latest annual report.
Youngsters 14 years of age
and under accounted for more
than half of those treated at
Warm Springs, according to the
report. Children between five
and nine years of age the group
most susceptible to polio ac
counted for 226 cases during the
year. t
Some of those who received
treatment at the Foundation
came from as far away as Aus
tralia to make use of the polio
center's modern- facilities and,
treatment methods. Most patient
care at Warm Springs was under
written by chapters of. the Na
tional Foundation for Infantile
Paralysis.
The Warm Springs report
showed that the average patient
needed approximately 60 days
of hospital care. .New patients
those being admitted for the
first time spent an average of
85 days in the hospital.
In addition to polio patients,
29 persons suffering from after
effects of other diseases were
admitted to Warm Springs for
treatment, the report showed.
