Institute Meets
At Grater Lake
About 60 members and guests
were at Crater Lake lodge Sat
urday for a joint meeting of the
California and Northwest chap
ters of the American Institute
of Planners. Panel discussions
made up the program.
Among those attending were
Joshua Vogel, Seattle, for many
years head of the King county
planning commission in Wash
ington state, and now on the
staff of the University of Wash
ington, and Tom D. Cooke, Los
Angeles, for many years with
that city as an expert on city
: planning.

The Cookes are being enter
tained at a number of informal
parties by valley friends. They
were guests in the home of Mrs,
L. P. Ames and her daughters on
Kings highway Sunday evening,
and were luncheon guests Mon
day of Mrs. Paul Janney, 192 Jan-
ney lane.
A special feature of yester
day's concert was an Elizabeth
an dance, the Pavane, staged by
company members Irene Baird
and Hubert Whitfield. The dance,
based on 16th century forms.
was choreographed by the two
actors. They were accompanied
by the ancient instruments en
semble.
Also on the program were El
izabethan ballads sung and play
ed by actor Brad Curtis, whose
singing has made him a favorite
with festival audiences for sev
eral years. Four part Madrigals
and English Ayres were sung
by Clarissa Berning, Jo Mail
lard, Jim Baker and Martin
Bliefernich.
Solo songs in the concert in
cluded Miss Berning singing
"Should He Upbraid?" Mr. Bak
er singing "Sweet Kate," and
Mr. Bliefernich singing "Sweet
Cupid, Ripen Her Desire," all
accompanied by the ancient in
struments ensemble. The final
piece in the program was a suite
for alto and tenor recorders.
The concerts this season have
been free to the public, and have
proved far more popular than
expected, Bernard Windt, festi
val music director; states that
present plans for next year's mu
sic program will continue the
concerts each Sunday during
August.
